CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for a new school year with intensive School Resource Officer (SRO) training the week of July 21, with all county SROs.
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said as summer winds down, CCSO SROs are dedicating their time to training for the upcoming school year.
“This comprehensive preparation includes certification updates, skill refreshers, critical decision-making exercises, firearms proficiency and advanced Active Shooter Response Training,” Gentry said. “Our children are our most valuable asset, and protecting them is the most important responsibility we have. I’m incredibly proud of our SRO program and the commitment our deputies show year after year.”
Under the leadership of Lt. Doug Duke, the SROs focused on readiness and excellence.
Gentry said CCSO Director of Communications Lt. Chad Whaley, who is a certified Active Shooter Response instructor and former SRO, has been instrumental in challenging the team to sharpen their awareness and tactics.
“We’re excited to welcome faculty, staff and students back to campus,” Gentry added. “We’re working hard to make this the best and safest school year yet.”
