CULLMAN, Ala. – Republicans Cindy Myrex and Clint Hollingsworth are officially headed for a runoff, as neither topped 50% of the vote in the State House District 12 Special Primary Election.
The primary was held Tuesday, July 15, with Myrex garnering 49.81% of the vote. She had a slim chance of avoiding a runoff with the counting of provisional ballots on Tuesday, July 22. The Cullman County Board of Registrars reviewed the 20 total provisional ballots, deeming nine to be valid. Of those, Myrex received three additional votes to Hollingsworth’s six.
Primary results with 28 of 29 boxes reporting July 15, were:
- Cindy Myrex: 2,129 votes (49.81%)
- Clint Hollingsworth: 1,848 votes (43.24%)
- Heather Doyle: 150 votes (3.51%)
- Dan McWhorter: 147 votes (3.44%)
Provisional ballots (box 29) were counted Tuesday, July 22, at the Cullman County Courthouse. After those were counted, Myrex had 2,132 votes (49.77%), with Hollingsworth coming in at a total of 1,854 (43.28%). Myrex was 11 votes shy of the 50% threshold.
The State House District 12 Special Primary Runoff Election for the seat previously held by Rep. Corey Harbison, R-Good Hope, will take place Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025. The winner will face Democrat Matthew Glover in the State House District 12 Special General Election on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025.
The Tribune has invited Myrex and Hollingsworth to appear in a live debate at The Tribune office on Aug. 9.
