BREMEN, Ala. — Cold Springs High School’s Baylee Perdue will be a senior in August, and in this interview, she discusses her faith and how much her parents and friends have helped her during her journey.

“God has been with me through the easy and tough times in my life, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without Him. Not only has He guided me, but He has surrounded me with some pretty wonderful people. My parents are two of those people. I was lucky enough to be born into a loving and hardworking family. They have raised me up to be the young woman that I am today. They have taught me patience, humility, and most importantly, kindness to all people. My mom is my rock and is one of the biggest reasons why I even know Jesus. Even though he doesn’t like to say it, my dad has taught me the values and life lessons that has helped me build a foundation for my future. From my early days at Harmony to making friends at Cold Springs, God has put into motion every relationship I never thought I needed. I know that God has handpicked each and every one of my closest friends. Each one of them have helped me grow in tremendous ways, from growing my relationship with God, to being a better person overall. Not only that, they have taught me to live a little, because this is the only life we have, and we have to make the most of it.”

Baylee added,

“God has also put some amazing mentors in my life who have taught me how to work as a team and the value of hard work. Although the practices were rough, that has taught me perseverance and dedication. Even at my job, God has sent some amazing people to lead me even closer to the Lord. God has met me at my worst and seen me at my best, and He still loves me, no matter what. There is nothing I can do to change that. His love is genuine and unconditional. He is the definition of true love. He sent His one and only Son to die on the cross for the mistakes He knew we would make. He knows you already, even if you don’t know Him. He wants to get to know you. All you have to do is ask. He has His arms wide open for you to come running in. We only have a short time on this Earth, and He wants all of His children to spread the good news of Him and to have a relationship with Him. I was taught to remember my why, and I believe that my why is God. That is why I do what I do. He is the reason for anything and everything in my life, and I don’t know who I would be without Him.”

Baylee leans on a trio of Bible verses to help her get through the day and helping people of all ages find God is important to her.

“Deuteronomy 31:8 really empathizes the love that God has for His children. This helps me not to be anxious and know that God is in control of all things. Romans 12:2 is very important to me, because it tells me that this world is not for me. I will be tempted to conform to the ideals of this world, but the Word of God doesn’t align with that. The world is an evil place, and I won’t be able to find my true purpose in it. The only way I can find that is through God. Ecclesiastes 4:10 helps me to know that through fellowship and Godly relationships in the tough times, there will be someone to turn to outside of God. If you don’t have these types of relationships, you should, because these are the best ones,” Baylee said. “It is extremely important to me for all ages to know God, because that way, they can also spread the good news. There is power in numbers. These upcoming generations are going to need the refuge of God. In this day and age, nothing is for certain besides God’s Word. I have three younger sisters who are already showing their relationships of God through the way they treat people and the way they act. I hope and pray that all young kids get to know our loving God like they do.”

She wants to be a great role model for not only her younger sisters but for other younger kids as well. She has so many Godly role models in her life that she looks up to.

“My parents have raised me to know that I am the example for my sisters. So, I know that they are easily influenced. I was a kid once and know how much some kids look up to you. In everything that I do, I try my best to glorify God. Regardless of who I am with or what I am doing, I know that God is always there, and I am a type of representation of Him. I don’t want a young kid to see me doing something wrong and think it is okay, because sin breeds sin. I just pray that the Lord gives me the guidance to be a role model for the younger generation,” she said. “My Godly role models in my life are my parents, my friends, and my bosses at work. They mean the world to me. They have helped me become the person I am today.”

Baylee talked about a very special event alongside her friends that changed not only her life but her friends’ lives as well. She also shared some advice for anyone that wants a relationship with God.

“Me and my friends got to help with the Field of Miracles, and it was an amazing experience. It helped me see the world in a different light. I hope that we were able to touch others with God’s goodness. Being a part of that experience is very important, because it helps you step out of your comfort zone to hopefully make this world a little brighter,” she said. “My advice would be that He already knows everything you’ve done, so there is nothing to hide. Bring it all to Him and surrender it all. He will forgive you if you ask. He loves you so much and will never stop. Even if you think you can’t be forgiven, you can. He looks past all faults and imperfections to see who you truly are. He loves you, so let Him take care of you. Let Him be in control. If you’ve never felt the love of God and want to, remember the ABC’s of salvation: A – Accept that you are a sinner and have done wrong. B – Believe that Jesus is the Son of God. C – Confess your sins to the Lord and give them to Him. There is no perfect relationship, so know that it’s not going to be like everyone else’s. It will be authentically you and God.”

Changing schools was hard for Baylee at first, but she believes that God has put people in her life to help her.

“I like to talk to the Lord every day, whether that be through praise and worship or prayer. I also like to have simple conversations with God throughout my day. I try to read His Word every day, whether it be a devotional or from my Bible,” she said. “When I made the transition from Harmony to Cold Springs, it was a very uncertain time for me. I didn’t know many people and was petrified of this new chapter. Luckily, God sent me a few of the best girls that I would ever meet. They led me closer to the Lord than I had ever been. I am so grateful for these girls and am so glad they are still my friends to this day. They have changed my life significantly. I am not the same person I was before I met them,” she said. “I have learned that no journey is perfect. I have messed up while still following the Lord. But I am human, and He knows that. I can’t beat myself up for falling into a slump. As long as I turn from those ways and set my eyes on the Lord, He will forgive me. The Lord doesn’t hold grudges. He forgives.”
