CULLMAN, Ala. – Kevin Everett has announced his candidacy for Cullman County Sheriff.

Everett’s announcement is below.

Hello my name is Kevin Everett and I would formally like to announce that I am running for Cullman County Sheriff. I have extensive experience in law enforcement for well over a decade and hold a master peace officer license in the state of Texas. I started my career as a reserve deputy right here in Cullman County in the 90s. I absolutely love what I do and have always been a public servant from my youth.

When 9/11 happened I decided to join active duty military so I enlisted in the U.S. Army. I was currently serving in a reserve unit in Decatur at the time.

During my law enforcement career I have served as part of SWAT/SRT team (team leader then Commander), K-9 handler, advanced K-9 trainer, worked with federal and state narcotics task forces, Narcotics investigator, aerial drone surveillance pilot, patrol sergeant, firearms instructor, and many other qualifications.

I have been trained as a commercial diver, and hold commercial hard hat diver certifications as well as Scuba. I have served as an instructor for both commercial divers and Scuba rescue tactics.

I am also a combat veteran who served in Iraq as a team leader for a personal protection team, NCOIC of a Military transition team, and squad leader. I have lead over 500 combat missions in hostile territory while looking for high profile targets in Iraq. I have also been a battlefield advisor to Generals in the field while serving overseas. Trained over 600 Iraqi soldiers to fight alongside U.S. forces, to include training the Iraqi Special Forces.

My leadership has never wavered from taking care of those under me and advisor to those above me when needed. I have prayed on this and God is pushing me forward to accomplish first and foremost his will and to serve the great people of Cullman County.

I bring a lot of heart and love for what I do to better the foundation Sheriff Gentry has already established, we can only get better with God’s grace and help. I hope God blesses each and every one of you and God bless Cullman County and this great nation of America. I am currently retired from the U.S. Army.

The Cullman County sheriff’s race will be part of the Primary Election held May 19, 2026, with the General Election slated for Nov. 3, 2026. Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry will remain in office until January 2027.
