(Updated) 1 dead, 1 detained in stabbing in Colony

COLONY, Ala. – One person has died and another has been detained in a stabbing incident in the Colony community. According to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the victim as Matthew Hall, 27, of Hanceville.

Upon arrival, the CCSO said, deputies secured the scene and provided assistance to the victim, who was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Kilpatrick said Hall died at the hospital.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry confirmed that one subject has been detained, and there is no active threat to the public. 

“We appreciate the swift response of our deputies, investigators, emergency medical personnel and other first responders involved in today’s incident,” Gentry said. “Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our community safe.”

The CCSO has not yet officially identified the person who allegedly stabbed Hall.
