Duell Waid Rusk age 85 of Cullman, Alabama passed away Wednesday May 21, 2025.

Mr. Rusk was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent 20 years as a mechanic and owner of his own garage, followed by 21 years with the road department. He often joked that he “quit working to do the lazy man’s job,” reflecting his commitment and strong work ethic. He had a green thumb and found pleasure in gardening. His tractor was his pride and joy—so much so that no one else was allowed to drive it. He was a member of Mt. Hope Church for the past two years and loved time spent outdoors fishing and hunting. Known for his warm personality, he was a stranger to no one—and if he wasn’t friends with someone before a conversation, he certainly was by the end of it. He loved his children deeply and was always attentive and present in their lives. Mr. and Mrs. Rusk loved travelling through the United States including Texas, Yellowstone, and Tennessee just to name a few. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life lived fully.

Mr. Rusk is preceded in death by his parents John Ang and Carra Etta Rusk, sister Doris Harris, and brothers James, L. E., Hubert and Alton Rusk. He is survived by his wife Linda Rusk, daughter Regina (Steve) Branham, son Johnny (Sharon) Rusk, sister Linda Brock, brother J. C. Rusk, grandchildren Charly Osmer, Christina (Beau) Henderson, Rikki Higginbotham, Channing Newberry, Cru Self, Casey (Crystal) Self, Justin (Felicia) Branham, and Auston Rusk, honorary grandsons Chris Martin and Chris Stephenson, 21 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. in the Moss Service Funeral Home Chapel, 1901 2nd Ave NW, Cullman, AL 35055. Mr. Rusk will lie in state from 1 p.m. until the service time. The family will receive friends for a visitation Saturday May 24, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mr. Rusk will be laid to rest at Crosses Chapel Cemetery CR-1145 Vinemont, AL.
