VINEMONT, Ala. – After sweeping a doubleheader at Holly Pond on Monday, the Vinemont Eagles hosted a varsity matchup with the Broncos at Vinemont on Tuesday. It was a tight game early on, but Vinemont quickly pulled away after that and ended up defeating Holly Pond 11-1.
Vinemont 11 – Holly Pond 1 (Baseball)
Vinemont struck first in its opening at-bats. Kayden Henderson lined a single to left field to lead off the inning. He stole second and later scored on an RBI single by Rylan McRae to give them the early lead. Holly Pond countered in the top of the second. Cole Eubanks reached on a fielder’s choice and later stole home to tie the game up at one. Chad Reynolds scored on a Bronco error in their half to give Vinemont a 2-1 lead.
Jake Hale got hit by the pitch to lead off the bottom of the third for the Eagles. After he stole second, McRae hit an RBI double to right field to make it a 3-1 game. Later that inning, Owen McKinney added a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 4-1. Vinemont quickly put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the fourth, and a two-run single by Henderson made it a 6-1 game. After he stole second and third, Hale’s RBI single up the middle stretched their lead to 7-1.
A pair of RBI singles by Tucker Mauter and Henderson gave the Eagles a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Vinemont scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the final score at 11-1.
Henderson led the way for the Eagles with three hits and three RBIs. McRae went three-for-three with a pair of RBIs, while Hale, McKinney, and Mauter all collected a hit and an RBI in the win. Ryne Dalton and Reynolds combined to give up just three hits and one earned run and struck out six. Carson Ryan, Brody Howard, and Ross Nelson all finished with a hit for Holly Pond.
Vinemont 18 – Holly Pond 0 (Softball)
Vinemont got out to a quick start to the game and didn’t slow down after that, as they picked up a dominating win on the road over Holly Pond.
Bryleigh Basinger finished four-for-four with three RBIs for the Lady Eagles. Darcy Carmack added a hit and three RBIs. Tori Vines and Haley Millwood each collected a hit and two RBIs, while Abby Kuykendall (two hits), Alaina Sandlin (two hits), Arleigh Thomason (one hit), and Jadyn Knott (one hit) all ended up with an RBI in the win. Vines gave up just one hit in her three innings of work, walked one, and struck out eight. Maggie Nail collected the only hit of the game for Holly Pond.
