FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Town Council at its monthly meeting on Feb. 3, discussed ball fields and the progress on the proposed new park.

Michael McLeskey with Speed Softball requested to lease Clint Barbee Field from the Town of Fairview. His plans include constructing a building to host practices, complete with batting cages. The group would reserve the space for practices on Wednesdays and Sundays, leaving the area available for park games the rest of the week. McLeskey agreed to help be a caretaker for the grounds as part of his rental agreement. The council agreed to consider a formal proposal upon approval from its lawyer.

Regarding progress on the new park the council has been discussing for several months, it heard from consultants with engineering firm CDG Engineering, who addressed the council regarding what grant money will cover versus what the Town will have to pay for from local funds.

Mayor Keith Henry reassured the council that many groups have volunteered resources and labor stating,  “I have commitment for equipment usage… (and) a good bit of the concession stands…We can take bids on what else we need done.”

In other business, the council discussed:

  • Patching Wesley Avenue and Butler Street is underway
  • 181 players have signed up to play spring youth T-ball/softball/baseball
  • Council members must complete and file ethics forms by March meeting

The next Fairview Town Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 3, 2025, at Fairview Town Hall, located at 7525 Alabama Highway 69.
