HOLLY POND, Ala. – The 69th annual Holly Pond Thanksgiving Tournament officially tipped off at Felton Easterwood Gymnasium Monday night but unfortunately for the home crowd, it was a tough night for our local teams. The hosting Holly Pond Broncos rallied to tie things up late against West Morgan, but the Rebels pulled away late in the fourth to defeat the Broncos 56-46. In Monday’s nightcap, Addison struggled to get points on the board in a 69-36 loss to Oneonta.

West Morgan 56 – Holly Pond 46 (Varsity Boys)

Cade Allbright scored 10 of the Broncos’ first 12 points to give them a 12-7 lead midway through the opening period but West Morgan closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 12 at the start of the second.

Allbright scored the first three baskets of the second quarter for Holly Pond to keep the score knotted at 17 but the Rebels put together another scoring run to move in front 25-17. After another Allbright basket, Carson Ryan laid one in just before the buzzer to trim the West Morgan lead to 27-21 at halftime.

Allbright laid one in, and Asher Thrift knocked down a three-pointer to make it a 33-26 game early in the third quarter. A bucket from Boston Gibbs and a three from Ty Dunn trimmed the lead to 40-31 with two minutes remaining in the period and Allbright sank a pair of free throws in the final minute of the third to make it a 40-33 game at the start of the fourth.

Baskets by Fox Westall and Allbright cut the lead to 42-39 and after driving to the rim for another bucket, Westall split a pair of free throws to make it 44-40. Allbright and Gibbs each scored inside to tie the game at 44 midway through the fourth quarter but West Morgan took control from that point on, outscoring the Broncos 12-2 in the final three minutes to pull away with a 56-46 win.

Allbright led all scorers with 27 points in the loss. Westall added five and Gibbs finished with four.

The Broncos will be back on the court to play Addison Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Oneonta 69 – Addison 36 (Varsity Boys)

Oneonta jumped out to a 5-0 lead and Addison’s first points came Bradley Willette split a pair of free throws to make it a 5-1 game. The early dominance continued for the Redskins as they stretched their lead to 17-1 but baskets by Kiah Lake and Jed Wilkins stopped the run and cut the lead to 17-5.

The Bulldogs trailed 20-5 at the start of the second quarter but a three-pointer from Owen Pratt and a basket from Carter Pratt made it a 22-10 game early in the second. However, buckets from Willette and Wilkins were all the offense Addison could muster in the remainder of the period and the Bulldogs went into the locker room trailing Oneonta 38-14 at halftime.

Scout Flynn banked in a three-pointer to make it a 43-17 game early in the third quarter and midway through the period, Lake laid one in to hold the lead to 49-19. After Wilkins split a split a pair of free throws, Kaden Dyson nailed a pair from the line to trim the lead to 55-22 with just over two minutes remaining in the third. Willette laid one in with 30 seconds on the clock to make it a 58-25 game going into the final frame.

Baskets by Lake and Dyson cut the lead to 58-29 early in the fourth quarter. Another bucket from Lake made it 61-31 with just over five minutes to play and the Bulldogs weren’t able to climb back any closer than that, falling to the Redskins 69-36.

Lake led Addison with eight points in the loss, followed by Willette with six and Wilkins with five.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against the Holly Pond Broncos.
