VINEMONT, Ala. – After handling Hanceville last week, Vinemont was back home Friday night for a big region matchup with the Green Wave of Gordo. However, the Eagles fell behind 21-0 in the second quarter and couldn’t overcome the deficit to climb back in the second half.

Gordo jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and quickly added another touchdown early in the second quarter to go up 21-0. Vinemont went on a 9-minute drive but was unable to convert on fourth and goal from the 1 on the final play of the first half.

Early in the second quarter Vinemont’s Rush Sandlin found Josh Rhodes down the middle of the field for a 42-yard touchdown to pull the Eagles to 21-6. Gordo found the endzone two more times to make the score 35-6 midway through the third quarter. Late in the third quarter Josh Rhodes scored from 11 yards out to make the score 35-14.

With a minute remaining in the game Gordo found the endzone to cap a 42-14 win over the Eagles.

Vinemont falls to 6-2 with the loss and the Eagles will be back on the road next week for a region game at Oakman.
