REMLAP, Ala. – Vinemont traveled to Remlap to face off against the Southeastern Mustangs Friday night and for the second week in a row the defense came up huge and propelled the Eagles to a 22-8 victory. For the first time since 2013 the Eagles are off to a 2-0 start.

Vinemont received the opening kickoff and was moving the ball down the field, but a holding penalty put the Eagles behind the chains and the drive stalled. The Mustangs quickly found the endzone to take an 8-0 lead early in the second quarter. Midway through the second quarter Vinemont tied the game at 8-8 when Tucker Robinson caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Rush Sandlin and the Eagles tacked on the two-point conversion. Vinemont forced a three-and-out and went into the locker room at halftime still tied at 8.

Vinemont forced two three-and-outs on back to back possessions to start the second half and the Eagles extended their lead to 16-8 late in the third quarter. On the ensuing kickoff Vinemont forced a fumble to give the ball right back to its offense and five plays later Chad Reynolds plunged into the endzone from 2 yards out to extend Vinemont’s lead to 22-8 early in the fourth quarter.

Vinemont stopped the Mustangs on a 4th and 5 play and from there the offensive line took over and they were able to march down the field and chew up enough clock to end the game in victory formation.

The Eagles improve to 2-0 win the win and they’ll be back on the road next week to face Phil Campbell.
