Auburn’s Broome named semifinalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award

ATLANTA – Junior All-American forward/center Johni Broome (Plant City, Fla.) is a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Wednesday.
 
The All-SEC First Team and SEC All-Defensive Team selection is one of 10 semifinalists along with Adrian “Ace” Baldwin Jr. of Penn State, Reece Beekman of Virginia, Devin Carter of Providence,  Zach Edey of Purdue, Ryan Kalkbrenner of Creighton,  Tamin Lipsey of Iowa State, Kevin McCullar Jr. of Kansas, Jamal Shead of Houston and Zakai Zeigler of Tennessee.
 
Auburn has now had a semifinalist for the award two of the last three seasons. Walker Kessler, then a sophomore center for the Tigers, won the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2022.
