WEST POINT, Ala. – The Brandin’ Iron’s eight annual Veterans Day Dinner took place Monday, Nov. 20, 2023. It was a free meal for veterans and their spouses. General Manager Josh Speakman said this year’s event fed 1,300 people.

“We truly enjoy giving back to the community and we’re so thankful at how many people get behind us in the event and support it,” Speakman said during the event. “We already had two WWII veterans venture through. The sheriff’s office will be delivering the meals from the West Point location to home-bound veterans, and we will have many local leaders stopping by to help in the process. I would personally like to thank the sheriff’s office, West Point’s Beta Club, the VFW and the staff at Brandin’ Iron.”

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said the event is one his office looks forward to each year.

“The Thanksgiving lunch that we get to assist with at the Brandin’ Iron is one of our favorite events,” Gentry said. “Our veterans mean so much to me and the sheriff’s office. It’s just an honor for us to be able to give a little back to those veterans that sacrificed so much for us.”

Local veteran’s wife Tiffany Treece and her family of three were in attendance.

“We truly love coming and hanging out and supporting the veterans,” Treece said. “My family loves this event each year.”

Former Alabama Sec. of State John Merrill also made an appearance.
