EUTAW, Ala. – After falling to Aliceville at home last week, the Cold Springs Eagles hit the road Friday night for a regional matchup at Greene County. The Eagles scored early and often in this one and after leading by just two at halftime, they continued putting points on the board in the second half to pull away and take a 54-46 win over the Tigers.

Touchdown runs by Matt Williams and Samuel Turner gave the Eagles an early, 16-6 lead over Greene County in the opening period. Williams’ second touchdown run of the night kept Cold Springs in front 24-14 later in the second and after the Tigers responded with another score to cut into the lead, a Tycen Kilgo touchdown gave the Eagles a 32-22 advantage midway through the second quarter.

Another Greene County touchdown trimmed the lead to 32-30 later in the second quarter and Cold Springs maintained a two-point lead going into the locker room at halftime.

Williams’ third touchdown of the game came in the third quarter and put the Eagles on top 40-30 going into the fourth. Josh Winfrey punched one into the end zone early in the fourth quarter to give Cold Springs a 48-38 lead and Williams tacked on his fourth score of the night with just over five minutes remaining to extend the lead to 54-38. Greene County was able to get on the board one more time in the final two minutes of the game but couldn’t come any closer than that and the Eagles held on to win a shootout over the Tigers 54-46.

Cold Springs improves to 4-5 with the road win and will be back on the road next week to wrap up the regular season at Tuscaloosa Academy.
