PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont drops region battle with Susan Moore 35-16

VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Eagles were back home for another regional matchup against Susan Moore, but they were plagued by turnovers throughout the game and the Bulldogs were able to leave with a 35-16 win.

Vinemont received the opening kickoff and marched down the field to take an early 8-0 lead when Diego Rodriguez scored from 16 yards out. The Eagles defense gave the gall back to the offense after forcing a turnover on downs. Vinemont marched down the field looking to go up two scores but a pick six early in the second quarter brought the Bulldogs within one, trimming the lead to 8-7.

One the first offensive play the Bulldogs forced a fumble and found the endzone 2 plays later to go up 14-8. Vinemont’s next possession ended with an interception by the Bulldogs, but the Eagles defense kept them out of the endzone thanks to a turnover on downs. Susan Moore added a touchdown late in the first half to go up 21-8 at halftime.

Vinemont looked to find the endzone before halftime but an interception in the endzone ended the drive early and the Eagles went into the locker room trailing 21-8 at the break. Early in the third quarter Susan Moore found the endzone to extend its lead to 28-8. The Bulldogs defense forced a turnover on downs late in the third quarter and two plays later extended their led to 35-8.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Dalton Bryan recovered a fumble for Vinemont and the Eagles took advantage when Rush Sandlin found Diego Rodriguez for a touchdown from 8 yards out to make the score 35-16. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs recovered the ensuing onside kick and were able to run out the clock to secure a 35-16 win.

Vinemont falls to 1-4 with the loss and the Eagles will be off next week before hosting a big region game with J.B. Pennington Oct. 6.
