DOUGLAS, Ala. – The Arabian Knights made the trip to Douglas to open up region play against the Eagles Friday night, and it was a tight battle that came down to the final possession. Arab took a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter, but Douglas was able to trim the lead to 21-14 in the fourth and threatened to tie the game in the final moments of regulation but an interception in the end zone sealed a hard-fought, 21-14 region win for the Knights.

An Arab interception set up the Douglas offense with a short field early in the opening period and just a few plays, the Eagles scored from 30 yards out to take a 7-0 lead. The Knights drove the ball down into Douglas territory on their ensuing possession, but the scoring opportunity was stopped short after they were forced to turn the ball over on downs. However, Arab’s defense was able to stop the Eagles and get the ball back early in the second quarter. Logan Silva capped off a Knights scoring drive with a 4-yard touchdown run and tied the game at 7 with 9:30 to play in the first half.

After coming up with another stop midway through the second, Arab went back to work on offense. The Knights worked their way down the field while trying to work as much clock as possible and Silva’s second touchdown of the night put Arab in front 14-7 with just over a minute remaining in the second quarter. The Knights went into the locker room leading the Eagles by a touchdown at the halftime break.

Silva’s third touchdown run of the game stretched Arab’s lead to 21-7 late in the third quarter but Douglas answered right back with a touchdown on its next possession and cut the lead to 21-14. The Knights fumbled the ball back to the Eagles on the ensuing kickoff, but Douglas’ scoring opportunity was cut short by a Jaxon Ivey interception. However, Arab was unable to run out the remaining time on the clock and the Eagles were back on offense with just over a minute to play. Douglas completed some big passes to get down into Knights territory but a throw into the end was intercepted by Wyatt Lamar with just a few seconds on the clock to secure a 21-14 win for Arab.

The Knights improve to 3-0 with the win and they’ll be back home next week for another regional matchup against Sardis.
