Oscar Gerald “Shag” Hayes, age 84, of Addison, passed away on Aug. 26, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gerald was a graduate of Addison High School, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and loved gardening and working on his farm.
Visitation for Gerald will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023 at 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, Alabama where services will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be held at Immondfield Cemetery. Brother John T. White and Brother Donnie Carroll will officiate.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Monica (Bob) Hayes Johnson; son, Dusty (Shelonda) Hayes; grandchildren, Jordan (Alan) Blackerby, Riley Black, Tucker Hayes, Willow Hayes, Brian (Jazmine) Johnson, Heather (Cody) Copeland; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry (Linda) Hayes, Larry (Rebecca) Hayes, Gary (Joyce) Hayes; two sisters, Maxine Rusk and Doris Willingham; a host of other family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda Bell Hayes; parents, William J. Hayes and Elsie Hill Hayes; sisters, Nealene Graben and Judith Artist.
