Funeral Service for Ellis Robert Bates, age 76, of Cullman, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Graves officiating; interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Bates passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Hendrix Health and Rehabilitation. He was born August 31, 1946, to John and Ila Bates.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony Bates; stepson, T.E. Phillips III; and stepdaughters, Connie Evans and Camillia Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Anne Bates; sons, Toby Bates and Marty Bates; stepdaughters, Catherine (David) Carter, Cindy Hardy, and Candy Thomas; grandchildren, Owain Bates, Paxten Bates, and Tesla Childers; and brothers, Kenneth (Joyce) Bates and Aubrey (Ruth) Bates.
