TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Eleven University of Alabama students are among a field of 42 contestants set to compete for the title of Miss Alabama June 28-July 1 at Samford University in Birmingham.
The UA students competing include:
- Hannah Adams: Miss Birmingham; Hometown: Birmingham; Talent: Ballet en Pointe; Community Service Initiative: Hannah’s Hope: Finding a Cure for Pediatric Cancer
- Ibby Dickson: Miss University of Alabama; Hometown: Sylacauga; Talent: Vocal; Community Service Initiative: Mentoring Matters
- Rylie Dewley: Miss Centennial; Hometown: Grand Blanc, Michigan; Talent: Baton; Community Service Initiative: Start Heart Smart
- Mary Catherine Dulaney – Miss Shelby County; Hometown: Ozark; Talent: Ballet en Pointe; Community Service Initiative: The Giving Well (Encouraging younger generations to live a healthy lifestyle by choosing water over other less healthy options)
- Lydia Fisher: Miss Covered Bridge; Hometown: Wapello, Iowa; Talent: Tap Dance; Community Service Initiative: Educating the Voters of Tomorrow
- Ashley Gattis: Miss Marshall County; Hometown: Arab; Talent: Tap Dance; Community Service Initiative: Giver of Blood, Giver of Life
- Marissa Luna: Miss Cahaba Valley; Hometown: Birmingham; Talent: Vocal; Community Service Initiative: More Than Meets the Eye (Advocating for those with hidden struggles and brings awareness to the importance of inclusivity and diversity)
- Olivia Smith: Miss Heart of Dixie; Hometown: Birmingham; Talent: Baton Twirling; Community Service Initiative: The Adoption Option
- Abby Sosa: Miss Southern Hospitality; Hometown: Cullman; Talent: Dance; Community Service Initiative: Bridging the Gap (Encourages collaboration between communities and a wide range of nonprofits and to create a positive, sustainable impact on the world by connecting to Hispanic/Latino communities)
- Lindsey Wood: Miss Appalachian Valley; Hometown: Thorsby; Talent: Musical Theatre Vocal; Community Service Initiative: Bows that Bless (A self-sustaining organization that helps foster care agencies and foster families by making and selling hair bows)
- Chloe Yates: Miss Tuscaloosa; Hometown: Prospect, Kentucky; Talent: Gymnastics; Community Service Initiative: Special Olympics: Deleting the DIS in Disabled
Contestants are evaluated in the categories of interview, talent, evening gown, health and fitness and on-stage question.
The winner will represent Alabama at the Miss America pageant later this year.
The mission of the Miss Alabama organization, part of the Miss America organization, is to help educate young women of Alabama by providing scholarships to further their college education.
Lindsay Fincher, Miss University of Alabama 2022, is the reigning Miss Alabama.
According to the Miss Alabama organization, the state title comes with a $15,000 cash scholarship along with several sponsor gifts and services made available to the winner.
