Plea deal, 20 year sentence conclude 2015 rape and sodomy case

CULLMAN, Ala. – On the morning that opening arguments were to begin in the trial of Jackson Matthew Hall, 32, of Lacey’s Spring, the defendant entered a guilty plea to one of the two pending charges, seeing the other dismissed. The jury was seated late Monday afternoon, June 12, and the trial was expected to get underway Tuesday morning, June 13.

In a plea deal approved by Cullman County Assistant District Attorney Greg Johnson and Cullman County Circuit Court Judge Martha Williams, Hall plead to first-degree sodomy of a child under 12 years of age (The victim was 5 years old at the time of the incidents.). A charge of first-degree rape of the same victim was dismissed.

Hall was sentenced to 20 years in the state penitentiary and a $5,000 fine, and was ordered to pay a $750 bail bond fee and a $1,000 crime victim’s compensation assessment. The charge to which he plead is a Class A felony that could have received a sentence from 10 years to life.
