Bow-Up Against Breast Cancer 3D archery tournament raises $8,000 for breast cancer research

Last weekend’s Bow-Up Against Breast Cancer 3D archery tournament in Cullman raised $8,000 to support local breast cancer research. (BCRFA)

Cullman, ALABAMA (May 23, 2023) — The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) again partnered with the Heritage Archery Club and Bowhunters Association of Alabama to host the 12th annual Bow-Up Against Breast Cancer 3D archery tournament. Held on May 20-21 at Cullman Community Archery Park, the event raised $8,000 to support local breast cancer research.

Over 140 archers of all ages from Alabama and Tennessee, including individuals and teams, competed in various categories such as fixed pins, open class, and traditional.

Awards were given to the following top archers and teams:

  • Top Team (Highest Score) – Archery Unlimited
  • Team Bow Up (Most Charitable) – PCI Upper 12s
  • Men Fixed Pins – Joey Tomlinson
  • Men Open – Tyler Hopper
  • Men Traditional – Alen Marsee
  • Senior Fixed Pins – Glen Howse
  • Senior Open – Russell Crowe
  • Women Fixed Pins – Connie Crews
  • Women Open – Renee Hornbuckle
  • Women Traditional – Brittany Reno
  • Youth Boys – Sam Smith
  • Youth Girls – Lynn Crews

“The BCRFA is incredibly grateful to the archery community for their support of this year’s Bow-Up tournament,” said Beth Davis, BCRFA President and CEO. “Research funding is the lifeblood of advancements in breast cancer treatment, early detection methods, and how we will ultimately eliminate the disease as a public health threat. Events like Bow-Up are vital in our ongoing efforts.”

Started in 2012, Bow-Up has raised over $234,000 for the BCRFA. All proceeds fuel the most promising, early-stage breast cancer research happening in Alabama, giving hope to the thousands of survivors and individuals touched by the disease.
