CULLMAN, Ala. – The Bearcats returned home to Bill Shelton Field Tuesday night to host an area battle with Hartselle but unfortunately for the home crowd, the Tigers plated nine runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding lead and eventually went on to take the series opener over Cullman 11-0.

Tucker Cagle got the start on the mound and got the first six batters he faced out to keep the game scoreless after two innings. However, Hartselle led off the top of the third with a double and a single to put runners on the corners and a fielder’s choice allowed the Tigers to push one run across the plate and take a 1-0 lead into the fourth.

Hartselle blew things open in the top of the fourth inning, stringing together nine hits to put nine runs on the board and extend the lead over the Bearcats to 10-0 going into the fifth. The Tigers tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth and returned home with an 11-0 win in the series opener.

Paxton Ponder finished with the lone hit for Cullman in the loss.

The ‘Cats will travel to Hartselle Thursday needing two wins over the Tigers to claim an area championship.
