PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lady Raiders down Fairview on the road

FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Lady Aggies hosted a tri-match with Brewer and Good Hope Thursday night and after both local squads fell to the Lady Patriots, the Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Aggies in three sets to split their Thursday matchups.

Brewer 25 – Fairview 15 (First Set)

Brewer jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, but Fairview ended up cutting it to 4-3. The Lady Patriots made it 7-4, but a point by Laci Segrest cut it to 7-5. After Brewer pushed their lead to 10-6, the Lady Aggies made it a 10-9 game on a Segrest ace. Later on, Brewer went on a run and that helped pushed their lead to 18-12. The Lady Aggies were able to trim the deficit to six at 20-14, but they wouldn’t get any closer after that as the Lady Patriots ended up taking the first set, 25-15.

Segrest finished with a point, a kill, and a dig for Fairview. Kabri Redding added a pair of points and a kill. Abby McDonald and Jaycee Aleman each ended up with a pair of digs and Peyton Salazar added a dig of her own.

Brewer 25 – Fairview 13 (Second Set)

The second set started out as a back-and-forth affair between both teams. Brewer held a slim 8-6 lead, but a kill by Segrest made it 8-7. The Lady Patriots scored the next six points to push their lead to 13-7. An Aleman dig would lead to an Ava Calvarese kill to make it a 13-8 contest. Brewer padded their lead even more as five straight points gave them an 18-8 lead. A Redding kill made it an 18-9 game and later on, a Reagan Dunkin ace kept the deficit at nine at 20-11. But they couldn’t get a run started as the Lady Patriots quickly finished off the Lady Aggies with a 5-2 run and would go on to win the second set, 25-13.

Aleman and Calvarese each finished with a kill and a dig for Fairview. Redding added a kill and a point. Segrest ended up with a kill and Dunkin added an ace.

Brewer 25 – Good Hope 7 (First Set)

Ivey Maddox got Good Hope on the board first with a kill, then Charly Johnson got a kill of her own and Maddox added a point to make it 3-1 early in the first set. After that, Brewer turned it up a notch as they went on a 13-1 run and the Lady Raiders quickly found themselves down, 14-4. Good Hope looked to get a rally started, but at the end, though, the Lady Patriots were just too much for them to handle as they ended up rolling to a 25-7 win in the first set. 

For Good Hope, Maddox got a kill and a point while Johnson added a kill of her own.

Brewer 25 – Good Hope 23 (Second Set)

Brewer got off to a strong start as they jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead. A pair of Addie Stripling aces made it a 5-4 contest, but the Lady Patriots pushed their lead to 9-6. Good Hope ended up going on a huge run to take the lead. An Emma Bailey kill made it 9-8, then four aces from Katie Creel and a point from Maddox gave the Lady Raiders a 15-9 lead. A Bailey Keef kill pushed their lead to 17-9. The Lady Raiders held a 20-13 lead and looked to tie it up at one, but Brewer came storming back into the contest behind yet another huge run as they ended up cutting it to 20-19. A Keef kill gave Good Hope a 22-20 lead, but the Lady Patriots ended up grabbing a 23-22 lead. A point by Maddox tied things up at 23, but they couldn’t quite get the win in the end as Brewer got the final two points of the set and they ended up winning the second set, 25-23.

Maddox ended up with a pair of points, an ace, and a kill for Good Hope. Creel added four aces. Keef ended up with a pair of kills and a point. Stripling added a pair of aces and Bailey collected a kill.

Fairview 25 – Good Hope 23 (First Set)

The first set was tight early on as a point by Fairview tied things up at three. Redding added a kill to give the Lady Aggies a 4-3 lead; later on, Calvarese delivered an ace to push their lead to 7-3. Back-to-back aces from Dunkin increased their lead to 10-5. Maddox collected three straight aces to tie it up at 10 and a Creel kill, followed by another Maddox ace, gave the Lady Raiders a 12-10 lead. A Keef kill pushed Good Hope’s lead to 14-11, but the Lady Aggies battled back to tie it up at 18 on a Calvarese ace. Dunkin got an ace of her own to give Fairview a 21-19 lead. A Creel kill trimmed the deficit to just one at 23-22, but Fairview held Good Hope off at the end as they ended up winning the first set, 25-23.

Dunkin led the way for Fairview with a trio of aces. Redding added a pair of points and a kill. Calvarese ended up with a pair of aces and Segrest added an ace and a kill. For Good Hope, Maddox finished with five aces, a pair of kills, and a point. Creel added a pair of kills, while Keef and Charly Johnson each ended up with a kill of her own.

Good Hope 25 – Fairview 17 (Second Set)

Good Hope got off to a good start to the second set as a point and a kill from Maddox, and an ace from Maddie McKenney, gave them a quick 3-0 lead. Fairview tied things up at three on a Redding kill. Maddox delivered back-to-back kills to give the Lady Raiders a 6-3 lead, but the Lady Aggies battled back to take a 7-6 lead on a Dunkin ace. There would be several ties for a while as neither team could get a run going. Bailey Keef got a kill to give Good Hope a 12-10 lead, but a Salazar ace tied it up at 12. Good Hope broke that tie in a hurry as kills by Maddox and Johnson, along with an ace from Bailey, gave them a 19-12 lead. Later on, McKenney got back-to-back aces to push the Lady Raider lead to 22-14. Dunkin got another ace to make it a 24-17 game, but McKenney got a quick kill to end the second set and Good Hope tied the series at one with a 25-17 win.

Maddox had a huge second set as she finished with six kills and a point. McKenney added a trio of aces and a kill. Johnson ended up with a pair of kills. Keef added a kill and a point. Bailey and Stripling each ended up with an ace and Creel chipped in with a point of her own. For Fairview, Redding finished with three points and a kill. Dunkin added a pair of aces. Segrest ended up with a pair of kills and Salazar chipped in with an ace of her own.

Good Hope 15 – Fairview 11 (Third Set)

A Salazar ace gave Fairview an early 2-0 lead in the third and deciding set. They later held a 6-4 lead, but Good Hope went on a run to get the lead. Maddox continued her hot streak as she got a trio of aces to give the Lady Raiders a 9-6 lead. A kill and an ace from Keef pushed the Lady Raider lead to 12-8. Fairview got kills from Somer Harris and Dunkin as that cut the Lady Aggie deficit to two at 12-10. Johnson got a kill to make it 13-10 and later on, sealed the 15-11 Good Hope win with another kill.

Maddox finished with a trio of aces, a pair of points, and a kill for Good Hope. Keef added an ace and a kill and Johnson ended up with a pair of kills. For Fairview, Salazar finished with an ace. Redding, Harris, and Dunkin each added a kill.

Good Hope will play in the Brooks Invitational at Brooks High School Saturday. Fairview will travel to Brindlee Mountain to take on the Lady Lions and Southeastern Monday.
