ADDISON, Ala. – The Lady Bulldogs of Addison hosted a Tri-Meet at Allen Stephenson Gymnasium and played region foe St. Bernard and county foe Lynn. Addison defeated the over-matched St. Bernard Lady Saints 25-5, 25-8, 25-10 and took down the Lady Bears 25-5 and 25-3 to complete the sweep. St. Bernard swept the Lynn Lady Bears in two sets.

Addison started out with the Lady Saints in the first set and Gracie “Bug” Manley got the Dawgs off to a 11-0 start. Manley’s serve was excellent, and the Lady Dawgs defense was stifling. Addison increased their lead to 17-1 with “Magic” Molly Gilbreath serving for five straight points. Addison went on to finish off the Lady Saints 25-5.

The second set was a little closer, but it was obvious that the Lady Dawgs were just too good for St. Bernard on this evening. Again, Addison jumped out to a 7-0 lead with Manley’s killer serve. St. Bernard fought back and the next couple of points were to alternate between the teams. The score stood at Addison 15 – St. Bernard 8 when the Lady Dawgs got tired of messing around and ran off the final 10 points to come away with the 25-8 victory. Manley set up her teammates, Abby Waldrep and Olivia “Goob” Gober for the kills.

Addison went for the sweep and again got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 15-2 lead. The Lady Saints may lack the talent of Addison, but they showed that they have a ton of heart as they started playing better and had the lead cut to 18-7. Addison took seven of the final 10 points to close out the sweep 25-10.

Unofficial stats for the first match

Kills: Waldrep and Gober with nine. Lauryn “Beemer” Cunningham had seven.

Blocks: “Dynamite” Dacey Baker had one.

Assists: Manley had 31, Hadley “Shooter” Butler had five and Waldrep had three.

Digs: Ashley “I’m Jacob’s Sister” Harden, Gilbreath and Baker had two.

In the next match, Addison hosted the Lynn Lady Bears, and this wasn’t much of a contest. Addison jumped out to a 23-1 lead, with the serves of Manley and Gilbreath. The defense was solid and there was good communication between the ladies on the court. What looked like a record setting quick match, didn’t end that way as Lynn stormed back taking the next four points to get a bit closer at 23-5. Addison took the next two points to end the first set, 25-5.

The next set wasn’t much closer as the Ladies from Addison were looking to finish this game early so that they could get to the homecoming bonfire. Addison led 10-3 and then Manley took the serve and well, that was it. Manley served the next 15 points straight and the game ended 25-3.

Unofficial stats for the second match

Kills: Waldrep with three. Katie Barrett, Baker, Cunningham, Gober and Emma “B” Willingham had two each.

Assists: Manley had four. Butler and Cunningham had two each.

Aces: Manley had 11. Gilbreath, Butler, Harden and Barrett had two each.

Addison Head Coach Kaydi Woodward was pleased with the performance and effort from her team Thursday night.

“We played with a purpose, and we stayed consistent with our serve and defense. We have a huge and important 32 team tournament at Brooks High School. This will be an all-day tournament on Saturday, and we will be playing a bunch of 5 and 6A schools. This will help us fine tune our game for the remainder of our season.”
