PREP VOLLEYBALL: Holly Pond sweeps Vinemont, Locust Fork at home

HOLLY POND, Ala. — The Holly Pond Lady Broncos hosted a tri-match with Locust Fork and Vinemont Tuesday night, and they collected big wins over both of them. The Lady Broncos swept the Lady Hornets 3-0 and the Lady Eagles 2-0. Vinemont was also able to defeat Locust Fork 2-0.

Holly Pond 25 – Locust Fork 12 (First Set)

Locust Fork held a 2-1 lead early in the first set, but a Kamryn Tankersley kill tied things up at two. Kaylee Rohrscheib collected a trio of aces to help the Lady Broncos break the tie and take a 6-2 lead. Tankersley added another kill and an ace, and Maycie Black collected a kill as well and Holly Pond pushed their lead to 10-3. The Lady Hornets scored three straight points to cut it to 10-6, but a huge dig and a point by Tankersley made it 11-6. A trio of aces from Emma Earl increased the Lady Bronco lead to 15-6 and they padded their lead even more as four straight aces by Ellie Burks made it 23-9. The Lady Broncos would wind up winning the first set, 25-12.

Tankersley finished with a trio of kills, two points, an ace and a point for Holly Pond. Burks added four aces. Rohrscheib and Earl each collected a trio of aces. Black added a kill and a point and Abbey Jones finished with a kill.

Holly Pond 25 – Locust Fork 13 (Second Set)

Holly Pond got off to a quick start in the second set as an ace by Rohrscheib and a Tankersley kill helped them jump out to a 4-1 lead. Locust Fork answered back with a 6-1 run to take a 7-5 lead. Points by Black and Burks and an ace from Earl gave the Lady Broncos an 8-7 lead. Earl added an ace to make it 10-7 and later on, Holly Pond made it 13-8 on a Black ace. The Lady Broncos started to pull away from the Lady Hornets as Burks collected a trio of aces, Tankersley added a kill and a point, and Gracie Armstrong collected a point as well; that helped them pushed their lead to 19-9. An Aliyah Ryan ace and a Tankersley kill pushed Holly Pond’s lead to 23-11 and they would go on to take the second set, 25-13.

Tankersley finished with a trio of kills and two points for Holly Pond. Burks added a trio of aces and a point. Black ended up with two points, a kill, and an ace. Earl added a pair of aces. Armstrong ended up with a kill and a point. Rohrscheib and Ryan each collected an ace.

Holly Pond 25 – Locust Fork 11 (Third Set)

The third set saw Holly Pond get off to a red-hot start. Behind four aces from Ryan and a trio of kills from Tankersley, the Lady Broncos jumped out to a 9-0 lead. A point by Black made it 12-4 and an Armstrong kill pushed their lead to 15-6. Rohrscheib added an ace to increase their lead to 19-8. Locust Fork cut it to 20-11 late in the contest, but the Lady Broncos finished the game strong as a Black kill made it 21-11. Earl collected a pair of aces to finish off the third set and that helped Holly Pond win, 25-11, to finish off their sweep of Locust Fork.

Tankersley finished with a trio of kills and a pair of points for Holly Pond. Ryan added four aces. Earl ended up with a pair of kills and a pair of aces. Black added a pair of kills and a point. Rohrscheib finished with an ace and Armstrong collected a kill.

Vinemont 26 – Locust Fork 24 (First Set)

Vinemont got off to a strong start in the first set as Abby Young got them on the scoreboard first with a point. Later on, Maggie Burks added an ace to make it 5-1; they later made it 6-1. Locust Fork, though, responded in a huge way as they scored the next eight points to take a 9-6 lead. Young stopped the run with a kill, but the Lady Hornets kept adding on to their lead as they pushed it to 13-8. Locust Fork held a 16-11 lead, but a trio of aces from Jana Harbison helped the Lady Eagles tie things up at 16. The Lady Hornets broke another tie with four straight points as they gave them a 22-18 lead, but Vinemont would rally back to tie things up at 24. After taking a 25-24 lead, Harbison got the deciding points to help the Lady Eagles take the first set, 26-24.

Harbison finished with a trio of aces, three points, and a kill for Vinemont. Burks added a pair of points, an ace, and a kill. Young ended up with a pair of points and a kill. Brooklyn Knott added an ace.

Vinemont 25 – Locust Fork 16 (Second Set)

Just like in the first set, Vinemont got off to a quick start in the second one. The Lady Eagles got a pair of aces from Burks and one from Jazmin Burks as that gave them a 5-1 lead. Consecutive kills from Emilie Hoffman pushed the Lady Eagle lead to 9-3 and three straight aces from Young, plus a Harbison kill, made it 13-3. Locust Fork went on a run of their own as they scored seven of the next 10 points to cut the Lady Eagle lead to 16-10. An ace from Garcia and two more aces from Burks increased the Vinemont lead to double-digits at 21-11. After the Lady Hornets made it 24-16, Hoffman finished off the second set with an ace as Vinemont ended up getting the win, 25-16.

Young finished with four aces, a pair of kills, and a point for Vinemont. Burks added four more aces. Hoffman ended up with a pair of kills and an ace. Garcia added a pair of kills and Harbison finished with a kill.

Holly Pond 25 – Vinemont 14 (First Set)

It was close in the first set between Vinemont and Holly Pond. An ace from Rohrscheib and a kill from Black gave the Lady Broncos a 4-3 lead. Holly Pond later pushed it to 9-6, but the Lady Eagles scored four in a row as Young got a kill and Harbison added an ace to help give them a 10-9 lead. Another Rohrscheib ace gave the Lady Broncos the lead right back at 14-12; a point by Tankersley increased their lead to 16-12. A Knott kill cut it to 16-13, but Holly Pond took over after that as they went on a 9-1 run to close out the game. An Earl ace and a point by Black gave Holly Pond the win in the first set, 25-14.

Tankersley finished with two points, an ace and a kill for Holly Pond. Rohrscheib added a pair of aces. Black ended up with a kill and a point. Earl added an ace and Abbey Jones collected a point. For Vinemont, Young led the way with a trio of kills. Harbison added an ace and Knott ended up with a kill.

Holly Pond 25 – Vinemont 17 (Second Set)

A Garcia ace gave Vinemont a 2-0 lead early in the second set, but Rohrscheib collected an ace of her own to tie it up at two. It was close between the two teams early on as neither one was able to break away and go on a huge run. A Black ace gave the Lady Broncos an 8-6 lead and later made it 10-7 on Burks’ ace. The Lady Eagles came back to tie it up at 11 behind a Harbison ace and a Young kill. Later on, Tankersley collected back-to-back points to give Holly Pond a 15-12 lead. Vinemont kept the deficit at three at 18-15 on a point by Knott, but the Lady Broncos started to create some distance from themselves and the Lady Eagles. A Tankersley kill made it 20-15 and later in the set, Black collected an ace to push their lead to 23-16. Black got a kill to finish off the second set and Holly Pond finished off the sweep of Vinemont with a 25-17 win.

Tankersley finished with three points and a kill for Holly Pond. Black added a pair of aces and a kill. Rohrscheib and Burks each collected an ace. For Vinemont, Harbison finished with a trio of kills and an ace. Young added a pair of kills. Garcia ended up with an ace. Burks added a kill and Knott collected a point. 

Holly Pond and Vinemont will face off against each other again at Vinemont Thursday and Cullman Christian will be there to complete the tri-match.
