WEST POINT, Ala. – The Russellville Golden Tigers invaded the West Point Thursday night, hoping to improve their 5A Region 8 record to 2-0. It was a great night for high school football but unfortunately for Warrior fans, the Tigers were able to walk away with a 27-0 win over West Point.

West Point received the opening kickoff and got started on their own 24-yard line. The Warriors opened up with their running game behind Garit Roberson but after three plays they were forced to punt.

Russellville wasted no time with Cash Crompton running the ball several times. The offensive line opened holes in the Warrior defense and the Golden Tigers score their first touchdown of the evening at the 7:22 mark of the first quarter, going 58 yards on the ground. The PAT was good, and the Tigers took a 7-0 lead.

The Warrior defense came to life in the final minutes of the first quarter as they forced a turnover on downs. The next series on offense, West Point picked up its first first down with a face mask penalty as the first quarter came to an end. West Point has a 44-yard touchdown called back for illegal man down field. Facing fourth down and 25, the Warriors were forced to punt again.

On their next series, Russellville struggled on offense as the West Point defense stepped up and held the Golden Tigers to a field goal attempt that sailed wide left.

West Point fumbled away their next opportunity and the Golden Tigers wasted no time making the Warriors pay, putting six more points on the board with a 46-ard pass to Torey King. The PAT was good and with 4:23 left in the half, Russellville led West Point 14-0.

Russellville adds to their lead with 1:43 left in the second quarter with 9-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, and Russellville took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

The Golden Tigers added two field goals in the second half and cruised to a 27-0 win over the Warriors.

West Point will travel across the county to face the Fairview Aggies in the Branding Iron Bowl next Friday in another Region 8 match up.
