PREP VOLLEYBALL: Holly Pond sweeps tri-match with Southeastern, West Point

HOLLY POND, Ala. — Holly Pond hosted a tri-match with West Point and Southeastern Monday night and the Lady Broncos collected wins over both of them. The Lady Broncos collected sweeps of the Lady Mustangs and the Lady Warriors while West Point picked up a sweep of its own against Southeastern.

Holly Pond 25 – Southeastern 16 (First Set)

Aliyah Ryan got the first point of the game for Holly Pond on an ace and later on, a kill by Kamryn Tankersley gave the Lady Broncos a 4-1 lead. Holly Pond added to their lead as they scored six straight points, including kills by Emma Earl and Ellie Burks and Tankersley collected an ace, to push their lead to 10-3. Southeastern scored four in a row to cut it to 10-7, but later on, Maycie Black collected an ace to help the Lady Broncos push their lead to 16-8. They held a 20-9 lead late in the game, but the Lady Mustangs came storming back into the contest as they went on a 7-1 run to make it a 21-16 game. Holly Pond, though, quickly righted themselves and they ended up finishing the game strong as Tankersley and Black each got a kill and Kaylee Rohrscheib added an ace to help the Lady Broncos take game one, 25-16.

Tankersley finished with a pair of kills and an ace for Holly Pond. Earl added a pair of kills. Black ended up with a kill and an ace. Gracie Armstrong finished with a kill, while Ryan and Rohrscheib each added an ace.

Holly Pond 25 – Southeastern 15 (Second Set)

Southeastern jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in game two, but just like in game one, Holly Pond went on a huge run as they scored seven straight points. Tankersley got a pair of kills, Black got a pair of points and Rohrscheib collected a pair of aces during that run as the Lady Broncos held an 8-3 lead. They later held a 13-7 lead, but the Lady Mustangs had a quick answer of their own as a 6-1 run helped cut the deficit to just one at 14-13. After Southeastern made it a 15-14 lead, Holly Pond finally pulled away from Southeastern for good as Ryan collected a trio of aces at one point during the run, Rohrscheib got an ace of her own, and Armstrong added a kill as well. The Lady Broncos ended up taking game two, 25-15.

Rohrscheib and Ryan each finished with a trio of aces for Holly Pond. Black added three points. Tankersley ended up with a pair of kills. Armstrong added a point, and a kill and Burks collected a point.

Holly Pond 25 – Southeastern 12 (Third Set)

Holly Pond got off to a fast start in game three as another ace by Ryan and two more by Rohrscheib helped them jump out to a 6-2 lead. A point by Black and a Tankersley ace made it 10-3. Southeastern cut it to 11-6 later on in the contest, but the Lady Broncos didn’t let them get any closer than that the rest of the contest. After the Lady Mustangs made it 14-8, Ryan helped push the Holly Pond lead to double-digits as she collected four straight aces to increase their lead to 19-8. Black collected a point to finish things off for Holly Pond as they swept Southeastern in its first region match-up of the season, 25-12.

Ryan had a huge game for Holly Pond as she finished with five aces. Rohrscheib added a pair of aces of her own. Burks ended up with an ace and a point. Black added a pair of points. Tankersley collected an ace and Earl finished with a kill.

West Point 25 – Southeastern 13 (First Set)

A point by Liberty Shadix gave West Point an early 2-0 lead and later on, a kill by Caitlee Simmons and a Brooklyn Wells ace pushed their lead to 5-2. They padded their lead even more as Laklin Shadix got a kill and that was followed by an ace from Liberty Shadix as that made it 10-3. Southeastern, though, answered right back with a run of their own as six straight points by them made it an 11-9 game. The Lady Warriors quickly settled down and began to pull away for good from the Lady Mustangs as Wells got a point and Brindlee Phillips added an ace as that pushed their lead to 17-11. Another point by Liberty Shadix made it 21-12 and Simmons finished off the contest with a kill as West Point took game one, 25-13.

Liberty Shadix finished with two points and an ace for West Point. Simmons added a pair of kills. Wells ended up with an ace and a point. Laklin Shadix added a kill and Phillips collected an ace.

West Point 25 – Southeastern 16 (Second Set)

Phillips got the game started with an ace as West Point got on the scoreboard first. Later on, they broke a two-all tie with three straight points as Liberty Shadix got a block point and a pair of aces to help give them a 5-2 lead. A Patton Fell ace made it a 7-4 contest, but Southeastern cut it to 8-7. The Lady Warriors reeled off four straight points in a row, including a kill by Laklin Shadix, a point by Liberty Shadix, and a pair of aces by Charli Aris, to push their lead to 12-7.

Back-to-back kills by Marli Powell and Liberty Shadix made it a 14-9 game, but the Lady Mustangs didn’t make it easy for West Point as they cut it to 14-12 later in the contest. West Point went on yet another run as Wells collected a point and an ace, Macie Brown got a kill, and Liberty Shadix added back-to-back aces as the Lady Warriors padded their lead to 19-13. Fells added yet another ace to make it 21-14 and the Lady Warriors would go on to sweep the Lady Mustangs, 25-16.

Liberty Shadix had a big game for West Point as she finished with four aces, two kills, and a pair of points. Laklin Shadix added a pair of kills and a point. Fell and Aris each ended up with a pair of aces, Wells added an ace and a point. Phillips finished with an ace, and Brown and Powell each collected a kill.

Holly Pond 25 – West Point 18 (First Set)

Tankersley collected the first two points of the game for Holly Pond, and they later pushed their lead to 4-1 early on in game one, but West Point quickly came back to tie the game up at four. Brown broke the tie with a point and a kill as that gave the Lady Broncos a 7-4 lead; they later pushed their lead to 11-5 on a pair of aces and a kill by Earl. A Brown ace increased Holly Pond’s lead to 14-6. The Lady Warriors slowly started to get back in the game as an ace by Aris, a kill by Powell, and a block point by Liberty Shadix, made it a 16-10 contest. 

The Lady Broncos padded their lead up to 10 at 20-10, but West Point cut it to 20-13 on a Laklin Shadix kill and later to 24-18 on a block point by Powell and an Aris ace. Earl finished off game one with a kill as Holly Pond ended up taking game one, 25-18.

Black finished with a trio of points, a kill, and an ace for Holly Pond. Earl added a pair of aces and a pair of kills. Tankersley finished with a pair of points and a kill and Burks collected a point in the contest. For West Point, Powell finished with a pair of points and a kill. Aris added a pair of aces. Laklin Shadix ended up with a kill and a point. Simmons added a kill, and Liberty Shadix and Kylee Quinn each collected a point as well.

Holly Pond 25 – West Point 21 (Second Set)

West Point got off to a very fast start in game two as Liberty Shadix started things off with a kill and Wells followed that up with a block point to give them an early 2-0 lead. They later padded their lead to 6-2 on a Wells ace, but Holly Pond got a trio of aces by Tankersley at one point during their 6-0 run as that gave them an 8-6 lead. Both teams kept the game close for a while as there were more than a handful of ties for several sets. A Powell point gave the Lady Warriors a 15-13 lead, but the Lady Broncos went on another run, scoring six straight points, as Tankersley got a kill and Rohrscheib added an ace, to give them a 19-15 lead.

Holly Pond held a 21-17 lead late in the game, but West Point made things very interesting in the end. Laklin Shadix got a kill to make it 21-18, and later on, she got a point and Simmons added an ace as well and the Lady Bronco lead was swiveled to just one at 22-21. Holly Pond was able to finish off West Point when they needed to as they got the final three points of the contest, including a Burks ace, and were able to hold off the Lady Warriors in game two, 25-22.

Tankersley finished with a trio of aces, a pair of kills, and a point for Holly Pond. Rohrscheib added a pair of aces and Burks ended up with an ace of her own. West Point was led by Liberty Shadix, who finished with three kills and three points. Laklin Shadix added a pair of kills and a pair of points. Wells ended up with two points and an ace. Simmons added a point, and an ace and Powell collected a point.

Holly Pond will travel to Guntersville to take on Southside-Gadsden and the Lady Wildcats Tuesday, while West Point will host Brewer and Good Hope.
