DOUBLE SPRINGS, Ala. – The newly minted 1A Addison Bulldogs traveled 17 miles west to take on their archrival 2A Winston County Yellow Jackets at lovely, Malcolm Blake Memorial Stadium Friday night and I would not be surprised if animal cruelty charges are brought against the hometown Yellow Jackets as they abused the visiting Bulldogs. WCHS dominated this game in every form, shape and fashion and came away with a resounding 29-8 victory.

The game started out well enough for Addison, as WCHS had their first pass of the night picked off by Brian Berry and he returned it 38 yards to the Jacket 37-yard line. Seven plays later, Berry cashed it in from 5 yards out to put the Dawgs up 6-0 with 3:39 to go in the first quarter. Braden Luker ran in the two-point conversion and the Bulldogs held an 8-0 lead and things looked good.

WCHS then figured out, we have a bigger line, and we don’t have to throw the ball to win. The Jackets ran only about four or five different plays all night and the Dawgs couldn’t stop them. It was basically the Eli Edgil, Declyn Morgan, Chris Clemons and Rakim Moore show running behind a purple mountain of an offensive line. The Jackets went 14 plays for 54 yards for the touchdown. Morgan took it in from 7 yards out for the score. After the Edgil 2-point conversion, the game was tied at 8 with 6:56 to go in the second quarter.

After forcing a three and out on Addison’s next possession, WCHS only took four plays to go 62 yards for the touchdown. Edgil took it in from 11 yards out. Morgan ran the two-point conversion in, and the Jackets led 16-8.

The first half ended with a Jacket interception of a Bulldog pass in the end zone.

If the Dawgs held out any hope that the second half would be better than the first their dreams were quickly dispelled. The Dawgs were forced to punt on their first two possessions of the second half while WCHS continued driving the ball with ease. The Jackets tacked on a Morgan 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the score at WCHS 22-8.

After forcing another Bulldog punt, Moore put the final nail in the Dawg coffin as he scampered untouched, 51-yards for the Jackets last touchdown. Edgil kicked the extra point, and the Jacket lead was 29-8.

Addison was held on downs on their final drive and WCHS mercifully ran out the final 5:47 of the game.

The final score was WCHS 29, Addison 8.
