PREP SOFTBALL: Addison drops tight matchup with Sumiton Christian 3-1

ADDISON, Ala. — The Addison Lady Bulldogs hosted the Sumiton Christian Lady Eagles, and the hometown Dawgs lost a close one 3-1.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second when Addison scored one run. After one out, Cara Bolinger singled and that was followed by a walk to Josie Riddle. After a second out, Lydia Ergle singled to right field scoring Bolinger. After two innings, Addison led 1-0.

Addison’s Anna Grace Luker and Sumiton Christian’s Kalista Cornelison were both dominant on the mound and the game moved quickly.

The game continued with that score until the top of the sixth inning. Sumiton Christian’s bats came alive, and they scored three runs to take the lead. Maddie McCrary led off with a single and that was followed by a single by Cornelison. Ali Kelly singled scoring both McCrary and Cornelison to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead. After a fly out, Annalace Rice singled scoring Kelly for the Lady Eagles 3-1 lead. Addison’s Luker was able to get out of the inning by striking out the next two batters, but the damage was done.

Addison threatened in the bottom of the seventh, Dacey Baker walked and Lydia Ergle singled putting runners on first and second with two out. Cornelison was able to get a pop up for the last out and that gave Sumiton Christian the win.

Unofficial stats:

Sumiton Christian had B.G. Braswell go 1-for-4 with a double. Izzy Ingle went 1-for-4.   McCrary went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Cornelison went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Kelly 2-for-3 with one run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Calli Corcey 1-for-2 with a walk.  Rice went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. 

Cornelison went the distance on the mound, scattering four hits, giving up a run, striking out six and walking two.

Addison’s Bolinger went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two excellent catches in the outfield. Baker went 1-for-2 with a walk. Ergle went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Luker went the distance giving up three runs, 10 hits, striking out five and walking one.
