Obituary: Mary Ellen Goodlett

Mary Ellen Goodlett, 90, of Cullman, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022. Mary Ellen was born in Cullman on January 13, 1932, to William E. and Vivian Farley.

After graduating from Cullman High School, she went on to earn her master’s degree in Education and taught at West Elementary School for 29.5 years. She married James W. Goodlett on June 21, 1953 and lived in Cullman her entire life. Together, they raised three children, Jamey, Lisa, and Vicki. Mary Ellen was passionate about teaching and passed on a love for learning that impacted countless students throughout her career. “Mrs. Goodlett” was an avid reader, patient teacher and a beloved member of her church and community.

After retiring in 1992, she loved traveling and spending her time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An ardent Alabama fan with an unwavering faith, she was known for her quick wit and compassionate nature, and her legacy endures in the immense group of family and friends whose lives she shaped.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband: James and son: Jamey.

She is survived by her daughters: Lisa (Randy) Latta and Vicki (Denis) Miller; brother: Jerry (Linda) Farley; her grandchildren: Brad (Stephanie) Latta, Matt (Nangge) Latta, Scott (Jessica) Latta, Emily (Shawn) Cecil and Lauren (Matt) Tabarrok and her seven great-granddaughters.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Northbrook Baptist Church with Keith Warden officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Elementary School Library or The Caring Center of Northbrook Baptist Church in Cullman.
