WEST POINT, Ala. – Cullman made the quick trip to West Point for a varsity matchup Monday night and the Lady Warriors were able to defend their home field and collect a 7-1 win. Carlie Wilkins got the start and the win for West Point, tossing a complete game, allowing just one run (unearned) on four hits and striking out five.

West Point got on the board in the bottom of the first after three walks loaded the bases and Braelee Quinn put one in play to drive in and take a 1-0 lead. Macayla Wilkins came home to score on an error later in the inning to make it 2-0 and Sydney Burks was walked with the bases loaded to bring in another run and give the Lady Warriors a 3-0 lead going into the second.

West Point struck quickly in the bottom half of the second. Bethany Minck led things off with a solo home run to left field to make it a 4-0 game and Braelee Quinn ripped an RBI single into left to make it 5-0. Brindlee Phillips and Braelee Quinn each scored on a fielder’s choice and an error later in the inning and the Lady Warriors went into the third leading 7-0.

Both teams combined just three hits over the next three innings, but Cullman was able to break through and get on the board in the sixth. Haley Shannon led the inning off with a single and after stealing second and taking third on an error, Faith Guest grounded out to bring Shannon home and cut the lead to 7-1. However, the Lady Bearcats couldn’t chip away any more than that and went into the bottom of the inning trailing by six runs.

Carlie Burnham led off the top of the seventh with a double into left field, but the Lady Warriors collected the final three outs to keep her from scoring and held on to win it 7-1.

Braelee Quinn (one hit) led West Point with two RBIs in the win and Minck (HR), Burks and Kylee Quinn each drove in a run as well. Guest posted an RBI for Cullman in the loss and Savannah Davis, Burnham and Abby Maples each recorded a hit.

The Lady Bearcats will look to bounce back against Austin at home Tuesday and the Lady Warriors will remain home to host Danville Thursday.
