Obituary: Mary Louise (Ford) Henry

Mrs. Mary Louise (Ford) Henry, age 97, of Cullman, Alabama passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Mary was born November 19, 1924 in Ragland, Alabama to Roy Thomas and Ethel Gallaway Ford.

Mary is survived by her son: Davidson Henry Jr.; her grandchildren: Davidson Kyle (Lexi) Henry, Donovan Cade Henry and Weatherly (Billy Sam) Taylor; her great-grandchildren: Davidson Jace Henry, Eliza Kay Henry, Kirkland Hill, A.J. Jones and Mary Weatherly Jones and her two great-great-grandchildren .

Mary was preceded in death by her husband: Davidson Henry Sr.; her son: Luke Rushton; her parents: Roy Thomas and Ethel Gallaway Ford; her brothers: Roy Thomas Ford Jr. and John Edward Ford Sr. and her granddaughter: Sarah Rushton Jones.

She grew up in the Oxford and Anniston area. She moved to Cullman in 1974 from Memphis, Tennessee. She attended Howard College, with a PhD from the School of Life. She was hired in 1977 by Cullman County to instigate and develop programs for senior citizens. She named this program the Commission on Aging. Then she started the Public Transportation System and named it CARTS. She was a founding member of Alabama Transit Association, serving on the Board. She served as the director of both programs she founded for 10 years.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, since her first Sunday in Cullman, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.

A celebration of life visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Moss-Service Funeral Home (1901 2nd Avenue, N.W., Cullman, Alabama 35055). A celebration of life funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. An interment will occur at Cullman City Cemetery (812 9th Ave SW, Cullman, Alabama 35055).
