PREP BASKETBALL: Lady Raiders dominate Hanceville 63-14, advance to area finals

GOOD HOPE, Ala. — The Good Hope Lady Raiders tipped off the Class 4A, Area 11 tournament at home against Hanceville Monday night and they dominated from the opening tip, easing past the Lady Bulldogs 63-14 and moving on to the area championship game.

Heather Tetro knocked down a three to start the scoring for Good Hope, then driving layups by Bailey and Heather Tetro put the Lady Raiders in front, 7-0. Rudi Derrick added a pair of baskets in the paint and Heather Tetro added a layup as well to make it 13-0. Ivey Maddox drilled a three and Derrick put in another basket in the paint to increase the Lady Raider lead to 18-0, but Hanceville’s Jolee McHan knocked down a jumper just before the buzzer to put the Lady Bulldogs on the board. Good Hope took an 18-2 lead into the second quarter.

The Lady Raiders added on to their lead in the second period as layups by Heather and Bailey Tetro, plus a three by Maddox, made it 25-2. Aaliyah Twitty put in a layup for Hanceville to make it a 25-4 game, but Desire Odachowski put in a three to push the lead to 28-4. A Derrick three and a Charly Johnson basket in the paint made it 37-4. Victoria Stanley knocked down a trey and McHan put in a layup to cut it to 37-9 at the half.

Maddox scored the first five points of the third period as the Lady Raiders increased their lead to 44-9. Twitty and Katelyn Boyd each knocked down a shot for Hanceville as that cut it to 48-13, but Odachowski and Maddox each added a three as Good Hope took a 56-13 lead into the final period. The fourth quarter was run under a hot clock and Lexi Collins, Bailey Keef and Odachowski each hit a shot for the Lady Raiders as they rolled past Hanceville, 63-14.

Maddox led the way for Good Hope with 18 points (27-4). Heather Tetro added 11 points. Derrick ended up with 10 points. Odachowski and Bailey Tetro each finished with nine, while Collins, Keef, and Johnson each ended up with two. For Hanceville (7-18), Twitty finished with five points. McHan added four points. Stanley finished with three points and Boyd chipped in with two points.

The Lady Raiders will take on Oneonta Thursday night at 6 p.m. for the area championship. The Lady Bulldogs will lose Victoria Stanley to graduation in May, but things are looking up for head coach Tim Bellmon as everyone else will be back next season looking to make a postseason run.
