COUNTY TOURNAMENT: Good Hope races past Vinemont 53-20 to advance to JV Boys finals

HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Cullman County Tournament action resumed at Tom Drake Coliseum Monday night with a battle in the JV Boys Bracket. The top-seeded Good Hope Raiders took on the fourth-seeded Vinemont Eagles and the Raiders punched their ticket to the finals with an impressive, 53-20 victory.

Dakota Overton got to a red-hot start as he scored on a layup to start things off for Good Hope, then he scored through a foul and finished off the and-one opportunity to give the Raiders a 5-0 lead. Colten Whatley added a floater to make it 7-0, then a basket each from Overton and Callahan Lindsey pushed Good Hope’s lead to 11-0. Overton continued his red-hot play as he scored five straight points, including another three-point play, as the lead widened to 17-0. A pair of free throws from Jeremy Harbison put Vinemont on the scoreboard and the Raiders went into the second period with a comfortable 17-2 lead.

Vinemont scored their first field goal of the game with 6:09 remaining in the second period as an Isaiah Jones jumper made it 19-4. Whatley knocked down a long-range shot, then Lindsey added one of his own to push Good Hope’s lead to 25-4. Overton added a fast-break layup to make it 27-4. Dalton Ray knocked down a shot for Vinemont to cut it to 27-6, but Eli Clements and Jed Clements would each add a basket down as Good Hope would take a 32-10 lead into the locker room.

Ace Stricklin drilled a three for the Raiders as that made it 35-10, then Eli Clements got red-hot, scoring the next nine Raider points, as Good Hope stretched their lead to 44-14. Kayden Henderson and Jones each scored a basket for the Eagles to cut it to 46-18, but Stricklin knocked down his second three of the quarter as the Raiders took a 49-18 lead into the final period. A hot clock ran for the entire fourth period and the Raiders went on to take the game over the Eagles, 53-20, to move on to the championship game Saturday at 4 p.m.

Overton finished the game with 16 points for Good Hope. Eli Clements added 11 points. Whatley, Stricklin, and Lindsey each ended up with six, while Jed Clements added five. Jones led the way for Vinemont with eight points. Ray added four points, while Henderson, Robinson, Dawson Wilhite, and Kaden Graham each chipped in with two.
