PREP BASKETBALL: Lady Raiders handle Winston County, Danville at home

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope Lady Raiders returned home Thursday night for a pair of varsity matchups with Winston County and Danville, and they collected a pair of convincing wins over both of them. Good Hope topped Winston County 50-28 in its first game before knocking off Danville 38-15 in the nightcap.

Good Hope 50 – Winston County 28 (Varsity Girls)

Heather and Bailey Tetro scored the first five points of the game for Good Hope as they grabbed a quick 5-0 lead. Winston County got a layup to go to make it 5-2, but the Lady Raiders went on a 9-0 run as four different players scored during the run and that put Good Hope on top, 14-4. The Lady Yellow Jackets later made it 16-9, but Good Hope went on another 9-0 run, which ended with Rudi Derrick nailing a three, and the Lady Raiders increased their lead to 25-9. Derrick made a layup and got fouled, which made the score 30-9, and Good Hope went into the half up, 30-11.

Winston County made it a 30-13 game to start out the second half, but a Heather Tetro trey quickly pushed the Lady Raider lead to 33-13. For the third time in the game, Good Hope went on a 9-0 run, with Bailey Tetro scoring four points, Desire Odachowski scoring on a three-pointer and Kyndall Seal scoring two points, to push their lead to 42-15 and the Lady Raiders ended up rolling past the Lady Yellow Jackets in game one, 50-28.

Derrick led the way for Good Hope with 10 points. Heather Tetro added nine points. Bailey Tetro ended up with eight points. Odachdowski added seven points. Ivey Maddox and Rechelle McLeod each ended up with six, and Lexi Collins and Seal each chipped in with two points.

Good Hope 38 – Danville 15 (Varsity Girls)

Good Hope took on Danville in their second game of the day and offense was hard to come by early and often for both teams. It took a little over four minutes before the first points was scored and that came on a Maddox trey, which was followed by a Heather Tetro three. Danville got on the scoreboard almost a minute later to make it 6-2, but Maddox drilled another trey to make it 9-2 with 14:31 remaining in the first half. Derrick hit a layup, then Heather Tetro hit a three as Good Hope pushed their lead to 14-4. Heather Tetro added a shot down low and Seal added a free throw as the Lady Raiders held an 18-6 lead at the half.

Shots by Derrick and Bailey Tetro to start out the second half increased Good Hope’s lead to 22-6 with 16:25 remaining in the game. The Lady Hawks scored five straight points as they cut the Lady Raider lead to 22-11 almost midway through the second half, but back-to-back treys by Maddox helped start a 12-0 run to end any hopes of a Danville comeback. Good Hope wound up taking the second game of the day over Danville, 38-15.

Maddox finished with 14 points for Good Hope. Derrick and Heather Tetro each added eight points. Bailey Tetro ended up with four points, while Johnson and Seal each chipped in with two points.
