HANCEVILLE, Ala.Amanda Duke was the lucky winner of a vacation recently, thanks to a raffle held by Hanceville Fire & Rescue. The drawing was held Sunday afternoon at the Hanceville Fire Station 1. Members of Hanceville Fire & Rescue limited the number of available tickets to 100 for a choice of vacation destinations with Abbott Vacation Rentals.

HFD Assistant Chief Bart Absher welcomed Tiffany Abbott Collins with Abbott Vacation Rentals to be a part of Sunday’s drawing. Collins, a strong supporter of all first responders, has a special connection to HFD

She explained, “Hanceville is my home and I wanted to help them raise money in any way I could.”

When Collins’ husband Tim passed away in 2018, he was carried to his final resting place by Hanceville’s antique fire truck.

She added, “It was important to Tim to bring awareness to the invaluable work our first responders do day and night for our community. I want to continue by helping whenever possible.”

“We wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for her (Collins),” said Absher. “I want to say thank you very much for all you have done for the fire department.”

The members of the fire department were sold the 100 $25 tickets in 100 days. Duke will be able to choose between four vacation destinations: Orange Beach, Perdido Key, Emerald Beach or Pigeon Forge.

Duke wasn’t present when her ticket was drawn, but she learned very soon after that she had won.

She told The Tribune, “To be honest, I was busy, and I forgot about it. My friends started blowing me up on messenger. When I got a minute to read the messages, they all said that I had won a free vacation. I looked at my friend and said, ‘Oh my gosh! I won a free vacation! I was ecstatic and I was in shock. For me, this is something really big to win. I have never won a vacation. I still haven’t made up my mind on the beach or mountains, but as soon as I do, I will let you know.”
