CULLMAN, Ala. – Icy weather is making its way into town and road conditions are growing worse as it approaches. Due to travelling concerns, most of this week’s sub-regional basketball games are being pushed back later into the week and several local squads are adjusting their schedules. Sub-regionals were originally slated to tip off tonight, but now most local hoops action will be taking place Wednesday.

The AHSAA has posted the following information to its website regarding the severe weather’s effect on the upcoming sub-regionals,

“1) The Championship Interruption Policy of the AHSAA states, “In the event of school closings

within two calendar days of scheduled playoff contests, the AHSAA administrative staff, in

collaboration with the Central Board and playoff event personnel, will attempt to delay or

reschedule the playoff contests without adversely affecting the next round of the playoff schedule.

Any part of a revised schedule may need modification.” The AHSAA will be steadfast in trying

to keep the current Sub-Regional and Semi-Regional schedule as previously set. It is the hope of

our staff that no games will be affected. In the event, sub-region games are postponed to a date

that will adversely affect Semi-Regional contests, we will notify all schools involved as quickly

as possible.

2) If you are the host of a Sub-Region or Semi-Regional game that is postponed, it is the

expectation of the AHSAA that the game be played the very next day, when possible. Please

note, if a girls’ contest is postponed on Monday or Thursday, the boys’ contest remains on

Tuesday or Friday if weather allows. In this case, girls and boys may have to play on the same

date.

3) If you are the host of a Sub-Region game that is postponed, please Contact Ron Ingram

(ringram@ahsaa.com) and Ken Washington (kwashington@ahsaa.com) at the AHSAA office

immediately with the postponement. Please inform them of the date and time(s) the contest(s)

has been rescheduled.

4) Please go to the front page of the AHSAA website (www.ahsaa.com) for all updates

concerning Sub Region and Semi-Regional dates and times. If you have any questions or

concerns, please contact our office at 334-263-6994.”
