Hanceville man killed in Blount County crash

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. – A Hanceville man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in Blount County.

Alabama State Troopers said Byron Holland Smith, 34, was fatally injured when the 2016 Ford Escape he was driving crossed the center line and collided with a 2020 Mack tractor-trailer. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer was injured and transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. 

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 278 near Hipp Road, approximately 7 miles east of Blountsville. 

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
