BAILEYTON, Ala. – The Town of Baileyton has a new shopping opportunity beginning this Saturday. Councilman Dewayne Sumner announced Monday night Baileyton Bargain Days, which will take place the first and third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the old Baileyton fire station next to the town’s park.

The Town of Baileyton has partnered with Wal-Mart to receive pallets of merchandise which is unable to be placed on the store’s shelves due to barcode errors.

“It’s items that come in that are mislabeled or were not supposed to go to Wal-Mart,” said Sumner. “They take all that merchandise and palletize it and then we call and go get it.”

The merchandise includes s a variety of name brand items, ranging from “aspirin to Zippos,” Sumner said. “There is something for everybody, and it should benefit the community because people can come and get items they would use on a daily basis.”

Volunteers and Town leaders already received the first pallets of merchandise and were busy over the weekend organizing the goods and transforming the old fire station into a store. Beauty and health products, toys, home goods, pet items, food and many everyday items are among this week’s available merchandise.

School and arts supplies are also plentiful in this week’s haul. In a show of continued support to Parkside School, the council invited Parkside teachers to come out Friday to fill up a bag at no charge for their classrooms.

On Saturdays, a donation of $20 will allow a shopper to fill up a bag, and for $40 a shopper can fill a large box. Some of the items of greater value will require a larger donation. There will be some restrictions and product limits on the items. Cash and checks will be accepted.

Said Sumner, “All the donations that come in will be used for park improvements and capital improvements for the town. (Sic) They can fill up their cupboards, do some Christmas shopping and all kinds of things.”

CORRECTION- In the article that appeared in the Feb. 3, 2021 edition of The Cullman Tribune titled “‘Baileyton Bargain Days’ begin this Saturday,” a member of the Baileyton Town Council said that the donations at the events will be tax-deductible. These donations, $20 for a bag or $40 for a box, will not be tax-deductible.
