Jerry Laotto Willibey, 80, of Cullman died peacefully, Jan. 2, 2021 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Ava; two daughters Lorrie Vancheri of Warrenton, Virginia and Patricia Crump of Cullman; and two granddaughters Audrey and Anna Vancheri of Richmond, Virginia.

Jerry entered the U.S. Air Force at a young age and served a combat tour in Vietnam, later retiring with 25 years of service. He then worked for 15 years for Lockheed Martin in their missile division, before permanent retirement.

For the past 15 years, Jerry has been an active member of Cullman’s VFW Post 2214, where he served several years as quartermaster and was elected as commander for five years. He led the post to number one in the state of Alabama and was honored at the national convention for his leadership. He served five years on the Elks/Veterans committee that plans the annual county celebration of Veterans Day, which has grown each and every year. During his time with the post, he met and helped many of his band of brothers.

Jerry also served his neighborhood of Canterbury as president of the homeowners association for many years and enjoyed working with all his neighbors. On the weekends he enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a huge Alabama Fan (Roll Tide). He also enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid coin collector.

Donations may be made in Jerry’s name to the flag fund at VFW Post 2214, 112 Veterans Dr., Cullman, Alabama 35055.

The family wishes to thank our veteran family, church and community for the outpouring of love, which will stay with us forever.

Visitation for Mr. Willibey will be at Moss Service Funeral Home Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 from 10-11 a.m. with a celebration of life service to follow.
