Obituary: Herman Ellis Thompson

A private family funeral service for Herman Ellis Thompson, 84, of Battleground will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at Blair Congregational Methodist Church with interment in the adjoining cemetery; Rev. Tim Holder officiating.  A private family visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Cullman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Thompson passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.  He was born Jan. 5, 1936 to Robert Henry and Nettie Laney Thompson.  He was a dedicated member and deacon of Blair Congregational Methodist Church.  He was a poultry farmer for many years.  He loved his wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Fannell; and sister Wanda Marsh.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Thompson; sons Rickey (Peggy) Thompson, Robert Thompson, Michael (Jennifer) Thompson, and Mitchell Thompson; daughters Carol Thompson, Cheryle (Roger) Terry, and Donna (Tim) Kelly; brother Ivan (Sue) Thompson; grandchildren Justin (Amanda) Kelly, Erica (Aaron) Sweatt, Kristi (Daniel) Williams, Richard (Angel) Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Jessica (Jason) Hurt, and Cody (Blair) Thompson; great-grandchildren Kylee Thompson, Jack Kelly, Colt Kelly, Audrey Kelly, Cooper Hurt, and Harleigh Thompson; and family and friends.
