CULLMAN, Ala. – A former Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) detention deputy was arrested over the weekend after investigators determined he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an inmate while still employed with the department.

The CCSO said in a press release Tuesday that Matthew Kenneth Martin, 30, of Holly Pond is charged with custodial sexual misconduct.

Martin was a detention deputy for approximately eight months. He resigned from his position several weeks before any allegations were made.

“I tell all deputies and detention deputies when they are hired that we will live by our creed here at the CCSO of Honor, Courage and Integrity,” said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry. “We will be held to the same standards that we ask of the community, and if you violate the law or our standards you will be held accountable.”

Martin has made bond.
