PREP FOOTBALL: Hanceville blows past Section, 36-8

HANCEVILLE, Ala.  – The Hanceville Bulldogs took on the Section Lions in their final home game of the season as they looked to snap a six-game losing streak. Hanceville did that and then some, rolling past Section, 36-8.

On the first play of Hanceville’s second series, Brosnan Ward found a huge hole down the right side and he wasn’t going to be denied; his 49-yard run gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs’ defense stepped up huge on its next series when Logan Guthery got a big sack on fourth down, forcing the Lions to turn the ball over on downs. 

Ward got 15 yards on the first play of Hanceville’s next series, but after a holding penalty, the Bulldogs were backed up at the 29-yard line on third down. Then Bo Joles found Guthery down the left sideline for a 71-yard score to put Hanceville up 13-0. After three straight punts the Bulldogs get the ball at the 36-yard line and Zach Campbell found Kendrick Johnson for 9 yards on third down before Ward got 8 more on the ground and a first down. Ward found the end zone four plays later on a 36-yard run to make it a 21-0 lead for Hanceville going into the half.

The Bulldogs struck gold to start out the second half when Karsen Wilbanks scampered down the right sideline for a 40-yard score and Campbell added a 74-yard touchdown on the next series. Section scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass in the final period, but the deficit was just too much for the Lions to overcome and Hanceville took the victory, 36-8.

Ward carried the ball five times for 113 yards and a pair of scores for Hanceville. Wilbanks added 61 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Joles completed a pair of passes for 78 yards and a score; both of those passes were to Guthery. Campbell added 74 yards on the ground and a score, while Guthery and Wilbanks each got a sack on defense.

Hanceville (2-7) will look to finish the season strong when the Bulldogs travel to take on Elkmont next Friday night.
