VINEMONT, Ala. –  The Vinemont Eagles picked up a huge region win when they played host to the Susan Moore Bulldogs Thursday night. The Eagles used a big second half to pull away and propel themselves to a 21-7 victory.

The Bulldogs found the end zone quickly to go up 7-0 a little more than 3 minutes into the game. The Eagles were able to pick up one first down but had to punt; the Vinemont defense answered back, forcing a punt on Susan Moore’s next possession. After converting on fourth down, Eagle Colby Miller capped off the drive with an 8-yard run to pull within 1, 7-6, with 8:56 remaining in the opening half.

Susan Moore was forced to punt on its ensuing possession, but it was muffed, giving the Bulldogs the ball with excellent field possession. Two Bulldog penalties and a strong defensive series forced a field goal attempt, which came up short.

Vinemont received the ball to start the second half and went on a 13-play drive capped off with a 1-yard run by Brodie Curvin to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagle defense forced a three-and-out to get the ball back, and six plays later Miller scampered for a 10-yard touchdown to put the Eagles ahead 21-7 with just over a minute remaining in the third.

The fourth quarter was controlled by the Eagle defense; the Bulldogs only had two possessions- one ended in a three-and-out and the other was stopped short on a fourth-down attempt. A stout Vinemont defense and heavy dose of the ground game controlled the clock, and the Eagles took the victory, 21-7.

Vinemont is now 4-3 and will face Oakman at home next week.
