CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Bosom Buddies Foundation received a $1,500 donation from Cullman Fire Rescue’s Cullman Professional Firefighters Public Relations Board (CPFPRB) at Fire Station 3 Wednesday afternoon. Foundation President Lori McGrath and Vice President Judy Grissom met with CFR Lt. Neville Franks at the station to receive the donation.

Franks, who said he has dealt with the effects of breast cancer within his own family, is the president of CPFPRB and he talked about the organization’s mission within the community.

“What we do is anything and everything that will help the community,” he said. “That’s what we’re all about is helping in the community, whether it’s for Bosom Buddies, Christmastime money for the CCCDC (Cullman County Center for the Developmentally Disabled) or if the Boy Scouts call and we send an off-duty fire engine to spend time with them. Basically, anything that’ll help out the community, we’ll try.”

Franks and the board are also selling T-shirts to continue raising money for the Bosom Buddies Foundation and to help fund more community outreach events in the future.

“90-plus percent of the money goes directly to (Bosom Buddies). We do keep $400 out of everything raised each year and we transfer that over to next year’s stuff. For the Santa ride that we do we had the Santa suit that we bought, and the Grinch suit we had to buy, and it’s really neat,” Franks said. “It’s a great opportunity to be with people outside of our normal everyday stuff. If everything goes right, we’re hoping to add a second truck on for Christmas, so we’ll have two Santas going on both sides of town.”

“Established in 2013, the mission of the Cullman County Bosom Buddies Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, is to raise money for the purpose of assisting Cullman area residents while they are in a cancer treatment program.  We provide need based assistance for day to day living expenses such as utility bills, transportation costs to and from treatment, food cards and other approved needs.  We pay the bills directly, no cash is given.  This assistance is for approved patients regardless of the type of cancer they may have or the location of their treatment center.”
