CULLMAN, Ala. — Cullman played host to the Hazel Green Trojans Friday night and dominated both sides of the ball to collect a 48-6 victory and move to 5-0 for the first time since 2009.

Jaylen Hughey got the Bearcats going early when he intercepted the ball on the second play of the opening drive of the game and set the Bearcat offense up with excellent field position. On the first play of the ensuing possession, Max Dueland found Jake Dueland for a 25-yard touchdown pass to put the Bearcats up 7-0 less than a minute into the game.

The Bearcat defense forced a three and out on the next Trojans possession and just three plays later, Hughey gave the Bearcats a 14-0 lead with a 32-yard touchdown run with 7:19 remaining in the first quarter. Max Dueland then scampered in from 4 yards out to extend the Bearcat lead to 21-0 on the first play of the second quarter.

After another Hazel Green three and out, the Bearcats added to their led when Jake Dueland ran one into the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown to make it a 27-0 game with 7:57 remaining until halftime. The Bearcats tacked on another score late in the half when Max Dueland connected with Nic Glass for a 36-yard touchdown to give the Bearcats a 34-0 halftime lead.

Cullman received the second half kick-off and pounded the ball down the field on another scoring drive capped off by a 27-yard connection between Max Dueland and Nic Glass midway through the third quarter that stretched the lead to 41-0. Late in the third quarter, Tyler Owens added to the ‘Cats’ lead with a 2-yard touchdown run that made it 48-0. Midway through the fourth quarter the Trojans was able avoid the shutout when they put a touchdown on the board but missed the PAT. Cullman ran the last six minutes off the clock to put away Hazel Green and secure the 48-6 victory.

The Bearcats remain unbeaten with the win and have a road trip to Mars Hill coming up next week.
