Obituary: James Larry Martin

It is with great sadness that the family of James Larry Martin, 81, announces his peaceful passing at his residence in Cullman, AL Aug. 14, 2020.

Mr. Martin was born in the New Hope community of Holly Pond, AL to James Percy (JP) Martin of Hanceville, AL and Rachel Chance Martin of Holly Pond, AL.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He attended Ensley High School in Birmingham, AL and was a member of the Central Park Boys Club. Larry and his wife Carol Pierce of Birmingham were united in marriage and together they reared four daughters, Charna, Rachel, Mary Ann and Laura Jo. Mr. Martin took pride in his family and made lasting memories with his loved ones. He had a passion for trading cars and connecting with people through telling funny stories. Mr. Martin supported his family by working long hours on many different jobs but there was no job he enjoyed more than owning his car lot in Ackerman, MS. He was known for his quick wit, his easy laughter and his compassionate spirit.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his father and mother JP and Rachel Martin and his brother Billy Joe.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Pierce Martin of 61 years; his four daughters Charna Brown (Clark) of Cullman, Rachel Martin Rounsaville (Brad) of Birmingham, Mary Ann Martin of Birmingham, and Laura Jo Pittman (John) of Tupelo; grandchildren James Stephen Brown, Ella Rounsaville, Sophia Rounsaville, Lillian Grace Sudduth (Clay), and Josephine Pittman; great-grandchild Preston Brown; along with many cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
