CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board met early Tuesday morning to discuss preparations for the upcoming school year. 

Under new business, the board approved several stipends for teachers to attend various training sessions. Kindergarten teachers will receive a $100 stipend to attend the AlaKiDS (Alabama Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills) training required by the Alabama State Department of Education, and teachers will be paid $100 to attend initial medication training and $50 for refresher medication training. The board will also pay Head Start teachers $100 per day and Head Start assistants $75 per day to attend professional development trainings, and new teachers attending New Teacher Induction will receive $100 per day.

The board also discussed a few new policies and revisions that will be sent to the Policy Review Committee for consideration. They are a revision to the secretary/receptionist job description, as well as a revision to Board Policy 6.9 Title IX. The current policy reads, “In accordance with Title IX (20 U.S.C. §1681, et seq.), the Board strictly prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex or gender in its programs or activities, including sexual harassment, as defined by law and Board policy.  Sexual harassment complaints should be filed and reviewed under the Board’s student sexual harassment policy.  All other complaints under Title IX will be filed and reviewed according to the Board’s general complaint and grievance procedures.” The new items for consideration were Head Start Policies and Procedures PO-HPS11, 12 and 13: Seasonal and Pandemic Influenza Plan, Daily Health Checks, and Emergency Closure.

Other agenda items:

  • Salvaged a Sanyo TV from Cullman City Primary and three metal tables in fair/poor condition form Head Start
  • Allowed Cullman City Schools Child Nutrition Program to participate in a supplemental bid to expand the selection of individually wrapped food items
  • Raised substitute nurse pay from $15/hour to $20/hour
  • Approved Kindergarten Camp at Cullman City Primary Aug. 19-20

The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 8 a.m. in the central office board room.
