CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Therapeutic Recreation’s (CTR) Cullman Hoop Stars special needs basketball league, formerly known as Miracle League Basketball, is in the fourth week of its season, and things are going great! Eight teams of eight to nine players are playing a seven-week, 56-game schedule with help from folks like the Cold Springs Eagles and Cullman Middle School Bearcats basketball teams.

“This is the first year with this new name. The players and parents seemed to be excited with the name and few changes that have been made so far,” said Therapeutic Recreation Director Kelly Pulliam. “The goal has been to make the games similar to a high school basketball game having the teams run on the court to their specific song, which was selected by each team.”

While this season is already underway, CTR is always looking for fresh talent.

Pulliam explained, “Ages of players range from 5 to 65. Some players have participated since the program began around 10 years ago.  We really need younger players, under 18, to participate, so the program can continue to grow.”

Cheer ‘em on!

Every athlete feeds off the roar of the crowd, and the Hoop Stars are no exception, so everyone is invited to come out to the league’s Saturday games at the Ingle Park Gym/Donald Green Active Adult Center, located at 1625 Cleveland Ave. SW in Cullman.

Said Pulliam, “No matter what sport you play, having people cheer you on makes you feel happy and important. I want each Hoop Stars player to feel that joy during their game each Saturday.”

Games are played each Saturday through March 21, starting at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon.

Consider bringing a group from your church, school, business or organization.
