PREP BASKETBALL: Area tournaments tipping off Monday

CULLMAN, Ala. – Area tournaments have arrived and its now time to win or go home for local teams traveling and hosting their respective tournaments. The winners and runners-up of the area tournaments will automatically advance to the sub-regionals on Feb. 10 and 11. 

Class 1A, Area 13 (varsity girls) (Decatur Heritage Christian Academy)

St. Bernard will be the no. 4 seed in the area 13 tournament and will take on the no. 5 seed, Lynn, Monday at 5:45 p.m. The Lady Saints took both meetings from the Lady Bears earlier in the season. The winner will take on the host, Decatur Heritage, Tuesday at 4:30. The no. 3 seed, Meek, will take on the no. 2 seed, Falkville, Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. The Lady Tigers dropped both meetings to the Lady Blue Devils 45-40 and 63-38. They’ll look to get over the Falkville hump and advance to the next round.

Class 1A, Area 13 (varsity boys) (Decatur Heritage Christian Academy)

The fifth seed, St. Bernard, will take on the no. 4 seed, Falkville Monday at 4:30 p.m. The Saints dropped both meetings to the Blue Devils 58-49 and 48-30. They’ll look to advance to the next round to take on the host, Decatur Heritage, Tuesday night at 7. As for Meek, the Lady Tigers are the third seed and will take on Lynn, the second seed, Monday night at 7. After falling in both meetings to the Bears 50-43 and 52-36 the Tigers will look to move on to the next round.

Class 2A, Area 12 (varsity girls) (Cold Springs High School)

Cold Springs is hosting its area tournament and will be taking on Southeastern Monday night at 6:45. The Lady Eagles easily took both meetings from the Lady Mustangs 78-25 and 69-34 and will look to move on to the championship game Thursday.

Class 2A, Area 13 (varsity girls) (Addison High School)

Addison is the host for its area tournament and they’ll be facing Sulligent Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs won both meetings over the Lady Blue Devils 38-23 and 39-32 and will be aiming for a spot in the championship game Thursday.

Class 2A, Area 12 (varsity boys) (Southeastern High School)

Cold Springs, the no. 2 seed in the area 12 tournament, will be taking on the no. 3 seed, Cleveland, Tuesday night at 5. The Eagles took both meetings in the regular season over the Panthers 56-49 and 52-48 and they’ll be looking to advance to the championship game Friday night

Class 2A, Area 13 (varsity boys) (Red Bay High School)

Third-seeded Addison will face off against the no. 2 seed, Sulligent, Tuesday night at 5. The Bulldogs dropped both regular season meetings to the Blue Devils 71-63 and 62-50 but will try bounce back and keep their season alive and move on to the championship game on Friday.

Class 3A, Area 12 (varsity girls) (Susan Moore High School)

Hanceville is the no. 3 seed in the area 12 tournament and will take on the no. 2 seed, Glencoe, Monday at 5 p.m. at Susan Moore High School. Both teams split their regular season meetings, but it’s win or go home time for Hanceville and the Lady Bulldogs will be looking to keep their season alive against the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Class 3A, Area 13 (varsity girls) (New Hope High School)

The fourth seed, Vinemont, will take on the hosting New Hope Lady Indians Monday night at 6. After dropping both meetings to the Lady Indians, the Lady Eagles will be trying to pull off an upset. Holly Pond, the second seed, will take on the third seed, Brindlee Mountain, Monday night at 7:30. The Lady Broncos took both regular season meetings and will be playing for a spot in the championship game Friday.

Class 3A, Area 12 (varsity boys) (Hanceville High School)

Hanceville is hosting its area tournament and will face J.B. Pennington Tuesday night at 5. The Bulldogs took both meetings from the Tigers during the regular season and are looking for their third win of the season and a spot in Friday’s championship game.

Class 3A, Area 13 (varsity boys) (New Hope High School)

The second-seeded Holly Pond Broncos will take on the third-seeded Vinemont Eagles at New Hope High School Tuesday night at 7:30. The Eagles took the first meeting of the season 61-52 while the Broncos bounced back to win the next 93-83. Only one team can move on Tuesday while the other is sent home.

Class 4A, Area 12 (varsity girls) (Fairview High School)

For the second straight year, Fairview is hosting its area tournament and will be taking on Ashville Monday night at 7. The Lady Aggies took both meetings from the Lady Bulldogs during the regular season and will look to advance to the championship game. Before that game takes place, the second-seeded Good Hope Raiders will take on the third seed, Oneonta, at 5:30 p.m. Each team took a game during the regular season and there will be a spot in the area tournament title game on the line when they meet Monday.

Class 4A, Area 12 (varsity boys) (Oneonta High School)

The second-seeded Good Hope Raiders will take on the no. 3 seed, Fairview, Tuesday night at 5:30. The Raiders took both meetings against the Aggies during the regular season but Tuesday’s showdown of this teams will be moving on to the championship game on Friday with both of their seasons on the line.

Class 5A, Area 14 (varsity girls) (West Point High School)

West Point is hosting its area tournament for the second straight season and will be facing off against Russellville Monday night at 7. West Point is 2-0 against The Lady Golden Tigers this season. The Lady Warriors won last year’s area tournament and will look to do the same in this year’s tournament.

Class 5A, Area 14 (varsity boys) (Hamilton High School)

West Point will be the three seed in its area tournament and will be traveling to take on no. 2 seed Lawrence County Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Warriors split their regular season meetings against Lawrence County and will look to keep their season alive and move on to the championship game Friday.

Class 6A, Area 14 (varsity girls) (Cullman High School)

Cullman is hosting its area tournament and will be taking on the Hartselle-Decatur winner on Thursday night at 6. The Lady Bearcats are 4-0 combined against both teams and will be looking for win number five in the area championship game.

Class 6A, Area 14 (varsity boys) (Hartselle High School)

The second-seeded Cullman Bearcats will be taking on the no. 3 seed, Decatur, Tuesday at 6 and the winner will be taking on the hosting Hartselle Tigers Friday night at 6. The Bearcats split their regular season meetings with the Red Raiders and they’ll be looking to keep their season alive in the rubber match Tuesday night.
